jrlmsla 0 Posted January 15, 2016 Molnija 3601/2's that is. So I have a bunch of Molly's sitting around. Decided to have some fun. This is my first attempt so don't compare it to Nightwatch et al. Bridges before: With some scratchy scratchy: Now scratchy blendy: plus another set with some feathery fancy No offense to my neighbors to the north. I have a lot of Canadian coin come into the office. Banks won't take it so I use it for fun stuff. Like creating nickel acetate! And finally the bridges after some DIY nickel plating: Not to bad for two hours messing around. And it's always fun to play chemistry.

onzenuub 304 Posted January 15, 2016 Can we send our watches for servicing?
jrlmsla 0 Posted January 15, 2016 Can we send our watches for servicing? Ha! Not a chance. I got reading the board about the dude that was "repairing" watches in Finland or something and how he was screwing everyone over. I remember reading his stories about train tickets and illnesses etc, a few years ago. I love watches too much to get in over my head and end up hating them and being hated Anyway I love vintage watches and as I didn't win the lottery yesterday I can't spend 1xx,xxx on the real thing and justify wearing them, I will settle for making my own. ower 1 Posted January 18, 2016 For how long did you keep the bridges in the electrolyte? Looks great!
jrlmsla 0 Posted January 18, 2016 For how long did you keep the bridges in the electrolyte? Looks great! Dip for about 10 seconds three or four times with 3 volts. Lower voltage would be even better finish but it takes longer
Dendo 93 Posted January 18, 2016 What was the electrolyte? Was the coating fairly uniform? Did you just drop the bridges in? What about making the bridges the anode? Great post - guess we could do similar with gold etc.
jrlmsla 0 Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) What was the electrolyte? Was the coating fairly uniform? Did you just drop the bridges in? What about making the bridges the anode? Great post - guess we could do similar with gold etc. The electrolyte is nickel acetate. I use Canadian nickels from specific years because they are 99.9% pure nickel. The coating is uniform once the best voltage is achieved. I have removed dirt and rust from metal with a 12 volts and made the electrolyte with 12 but that tends to pit the metal you are plating, so at the point of plating I switched to a battery instead. As far as the bridges I had them attached to an alligator clip and just moved it between dips. I can make a more in depth tutorial with better pics if you guys would like? SackOHammers 0 Posted January 18, 2016 Not something I would see doing myself, but if you're game to explain it more, I would find it an interesting read.
