My First Post and First Rep

Recommended Posts

Stealthking

Hello everyone,

Totally new to this site and also new to the rep world.....nervous and excited at the same time........

Have a few gens and when recently looking to acquire an Omega PO, was somewhat curious about the quality of reps these days hence stumbling onto this site...(which by the way has been extremely informative). It was a toss up between $3.7k and $300 for a watch that I was hoping to used regularly and likely scratch.

After reading some of the material on this site, I started to wonder if it would be more prudent to get a rep for a daily runabout that you would not mind scratching or losing.... at the end of the day, I'm sure there will be slight flaws but if you treat it as the step-child watch then I'm hoping I wont be disappointed.... wont be trying to pass it off as a gen watch but rather...... "....look, what a bargain for a quality replica that you don't mind destroying". I am also somewhat curious as to how many people would ask if its a replica as they already know that I have a collection of watches and pens... LOL

Anyhow, have just placed my order for a KW Ceramic Omega Skyfall PO..... there was a lot of write up about Noob, BP, KW V6 etc but they all seemed quite a long time ago...2013-2014. Overall it appeared that the KW version is best aesthetically but perhaps movement not so great..? Is this still the general consensus in 2016 ? Suppose its all too late now as I have placed the order and only time will tell....... Think Kuvarsit was one of your trusty dealers, so went with them

Incidentally, on a separate note, as a newbie here and unfamiliar with terms etc.... I was really thrown when references were made about Noob factory versus Noob as in Newbie...... After a lot of reading and digesting, when I finally figured out that Noob was a factory source for the watch, I felt like a downright tool... LOL..!!!!

Anyhow, I think I've written way too much for my first introductory post... LOL.

hi there, welcome to this wonderful world of reps

The kw omega PO is quite a nice watch, the miyota movement can get a bit noisy but it keeps good time and is cheap to service/replace.

Overall build quality is great too, just look out for proper alignment of the datewheel, bezel pearl and hour markers and you're good to go!

I think finding RWG site was the beginnings of another rather expensive hobby....

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and will definitely post pics when the shipment arrives.....

Just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me why for the same model watch, some have pins on their wristbands and some have screws? Would have thought that for such a low cost that they would just use the screws so it looks more authentic.

Different versions of the gen Planet Ocean have either pins or screws. The rep makers make both but sometimes if they run out of one type of bracelet they factory will substitute another bracelet that looks almost identical... Just something to watch out for on the QC photos... Although its not that anyone will notice when you are wearing the watch but the pin collar type ones are a right fucking pain to size even with the right tools

Thanks for the heads up... my QC pics showed the screw in type bracelet which was what I wanted.

Incidentally, I have been looking all over but cannot seem to find anyone who sells the rep bracelet with screws. Does anyone know where I can get one from and how much they should cost...?

Well it has finally arrived....... after a gruelling anxious 2 week wait, its in my hands. (2 weeks is very quick, but when waiting for a new toy, it seemed like 2 months.. LOL)

It certainly looked the part. Everything was in the right place, felt right and definitely looked very alright. I could not wait to put in on my wrist and was really looking forward to having it on as was heading out in the evening for dinner.

Slid it around the hand, pushed the clasp shut till it clicked only to find that with the slightest of movement or agitation, the clasp became undone. Tried pushing it shut harder for a few more times but the same result.... it seemed the little bolt on the clasp was slipping out of the locking mechanism and just would not hold. I'm sure you watch lovers can appreciate this, but I had gone from an all time high to rock bottom within the space of around 10 seconds..... I know this does not compare to real world problems like poverty and hunger but I'm sure the watch fans out there know what I mean.

I suppose this is one of those problems that could not be picked up from the QC photos supplied, but I would have assumed that the sellers would have checked the locking mechanism as part of their own internal QC checks before posting the watch out...? Perhaps not.......

In any event, I have sent a video to the seller to allow them to see and hear the claps clicking shut and then just coming apart with the slightest pressure. I've asked them to resend another clasp (that they should test before sending) and I'll have a watch repair guy here swap it over for me. I think that is a fair resolution to this problem...? Will wait and see.

Only other problem now is that most of them are away on Chinese New Year Holidays till the end of the month, so I'm simply going to be stuck with this awesome piece of toy in front of me that I simply cant use for another month at least..... :noway: .... can you guys just feel my pain and agony... LOL !!!

Anyhow, here's a pic of it.....

Unfortunately things can go wrong and you have done the right thing by contacting the dealer and coming to a solution.

Bugger that you need to wait but it will be worth it.

Why not buy a cheap Nato strap just now and stick it on that till you wait for the new clasp.

Do you mind posting the video? I'm not familiar with this watch's clasp but depending on what the problem is there might be an easy DIY fix. A lot of the clasps that are too loose/tight can be changed with a little bending here or there. Maybe we can help!

I had a similar issue with a PO clasp, there was an issue with the clasp not locking I have now managed to get this fixed just needed to remove the a little cover plate.

The photo below shows how the inside of the clasp looks with it removed and also the little plate i had to remove. This is not visible with the watch on your wrist and once removed the clasp locks good and tight

Sorry to hear about the clasp, but it's a common problem. I have two Omega reps and both have bracelet clasps that have this same problem. I suspect any replacement bracelet or clasp won't be any better. First, make sure you don't have the bracelet sized too tight -- the extra stress of flexing your wrist can cause the clasp to open -- I've had that happen on gen Omega bracelets. If you're sure that's not the problem, then try these tricks: 1) depress the buttons on the side to close the clasp and don't rely on it to snap shut properly, or 2) jimmy around with the locking mechanism to get it to work.

I found # 1 solved my issue.

Good luck

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions (@ andyboy, jmshen, genius, grinner)

I'm really not keen on modifying or removing parts from a brand new watch in order to fix a problem that arrived with the item. I think its fair to expect, whether it be genuine or rep, that the claps on a brand new watch should work and lock in place so you can actually wear the watch to use it right....???

On closer inspection, seems like the rounded head bolt part that pops in between the two spring wires (as per Genius attached pic) is just a little too short, thus does not fully go through in between the two spring wires and not holding in place. I can see how removing the metal plate would probably allow further 1-1.5mm of travel hence allowing the bolt head to travel further, but as mentioned before, just do not think I should have to do mods first up on a brand new item purchased.

I think its only fair to ask for a replacement clasp and also have asked them to pre-check that it shuts properly before sending. After all, I'm going through the frustration of having to put my new toy on hold and also the inconvenience of having to get parts switched over after the wait.....

Think its reasonable to expect that they will come to the party....Otherwise, the words Compensation, Visa Dispute resolution, etc...... comes to mind and the gloves come off.... LOL... :giggle:

^^^^ please realize that the standards you hold Gen watches to cannot be applied to Reps.

If you can't do a simple mod on a watch...

that other members have showed you how to do...

because of some sort of attitude towards how you 'think things should be' with a new item...

then it's possible this hobby may not be for you.

Now, if you paid 3000quid for a watch that has 'kind of a messed up clasp'? Yeah. Complain.

Get the AD to give you white glove service. You deserve it.

However, you illegally imported a fake item into your country that costs about the same as a Citizen or Casio.

You didn't buy the real thing.

One more thing:

''Compensation'' and ''Visa Dispute Resolution'' don't play well with ''Illegal Importation of Contraband'' or "Import Tax Evasion.''

When you drop these hammers on vendors, it messes with their business something awful, which affects their abilities to get us our watches.

You might find that if you do these things, it might cause you more trouble than you initially envisioned.

I'd suggest putting your new watch on a NATO, or trying the fix, or possibly buying a gen bracelet or aftermarket solution.

All include you taking a deep breath, being flexible, relaxing, and having fun with your new watch.

Looks good by the way :)

Gotta agree with porschespeedster on this 100%, stealthking. I've only bought two fakes, but each one I considered a gamble, like going to the casino and playing craps. If you can't afford to lose the money, don't buy a rep. Honestly, though, the odds are stacked in our favor with the TDs, and the clasp issue is pretty small potatoes in the big picture. Put it on a NATO, or a strap, and enjoy it.

I'm sure you'll get this solved amicably. Don't go about openly complaining on these forums as this community will not help you, not if you threaten to dispute it with VISA or request other forms of compensation. . Give the TD a chance to get back to you and/or contact a mod here, they will help you sort it out.

PS good choice for a first rep. My first was also an Omega PO.
