MetalMickey 179 Posted January 31, 2016 I've just watched a fantastic film on Netflix about George Daniels (inventor of the coaxial escapement) and his apprentice Roger Smith. It's a fascinating look at the almost vanished art of a single watchmaker hand making watches from scratch, and I found it absolutely fascinating. It's on Netflix (UK), and some more details on it are on the website http://www.thewatchmakersapprentice.com
Gazzla 23 Posted January 31, 2016 I've watched it, it was originally on the Beeb. Fascinating.
jmshen 0 Posted January 31, 2016 This has been in my queue for weeks now. I've really been on a documentary kick lately: Somm, Jiro dreams of Sushi. I'm really looking forward to this one. Anyone have other recs on watch vids?

Kcore 0 Posted January 31, 2016 I had the opportunity to view it back in April with the Horological Society of NY at the TriBeCa Cinema. There was a Q&A with Roger Smith and film director, David Armstrong. Really enjoyable!
Gazzla 23 Posted January 31, 2016 He makes 10 watches a year and sells them for 100 grand each.
JSJ 0 Posted January 31, 2016 By strange coincidence I watched it on Amazon Prime yesterday evening. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Talk about nutters. I thought we were bad. Impressive nutters I must say. Driven, passionate and definitely not doing it for the money.
SackOHammers 0 Posted February 1, 2016 Can't seem to find it in the U.S. On Amazon.com, nothing shows up for "The Watchmaker's Apprentice". On Netflix, nothing shows up with "Watchmaker" in it. You have to go to the Amazon UK site to even see the DVD listed. I didn't see it available in Prime for me.

Hulu has it if you have a subscription. If you don't care about quality you can also find it on those streaming sites. And as always you can find copies through other means but sometimes it's a "torrent"ial hassle. Did you see what I did there? Huh? Huh?

You could try a service like unblock-us.com that has a free trial to switch region but a bit of a pain serting it up for one short movie.
zaqwsxmike 0 Posted February 1, 2016 The putlocker HD streams are pretty good. Saw this a couple of weeks back, gotta say it's my fave watch-related docs of all time On a related note, any recommendations for more horology docs? Preferably in HD cuz it's basically porn...
