Thrichar 47 Posted August 7, 2016 Thought I'd give a heads up about some asshole that tried to scam me on WUS. I got what looked like a normal email notification about a PM enquiring about the Bremont I have listed for sale. When I went to my PM list it didn't show but I figured it might be a quirk in the system. I replied to the email address the person gave (they were asking about shipping costs). They then sent me an email asking me to click on the WUS link they provided for 'verification'. It's took me to what looks like the WUS forum login screen but it's at a completely different web address. I PMd a WUS mod who confirmed the scam. Not sure if it's appropriate to list the name and email address of the wanker concerned, but figured I would give a heads up as to the approach!

Wriggles 12 Posted August 7, 2016 Scammer is a scammer, don't see why you shouldn't post the details here. Mods?
RussP 21,677 Posted August 7, 2016 Name the wanker..............possibly just an alias anyway. Glad you averted the scam, Tom.
jakethemouse 0 Posted August 7, 2016 Thanks for the head up mate. Having been a victim of a scammer earlier this year I say name and shame the bastards, address and all.
Thrichar 47 Posted August 7, 2016 I'll check with the mods - if they're cool then I'll post it. What sucked me in was the way the guy replicated the email notification from WUS. Second part of the scam wasn't very sophisticated, but I completely fell for the first part!
Thrichar 47 Posted August 7, 2016 Okay, with permission from Andyboy: This was the original email I received. The second one said his name was Walter Peterson and took me to a fake WUS login. For reference, the actual domain was http://www.meadvillepodiatry.com/wusthuseek/Watchuseek.html It's now a dead link, probably because I told the guy I reported the scam!
