I just purchased a million tools and some leather and am about to begin my own journey.

Reading through this post was very inspirational.

Thank you, and keep up the great work!

Thanks. I'm actually working on something for a Daytona right now. I've made a few for my Hulk in the past.

I got a ton of new leather last week that I've been going googly-eyed over to make stuff with.

They call it "padding" a strap. Basically it's another piece of leather you put underneath the top layer to give a nice mountainous aesthetic.

Thank you for the info, I was already aware of that (I've seen padding, infill, filler and other terms to call it) but since I'm also making straps, I wondered what do you use for padding : I'm experimenting with cork to gain extra thickness without making the whole strap too stiff.

Do you find leather to be the best ?

My opinion is the leather is the best. I've owned a few straps that used other foam-like fillers and it made an otherwise very nice strap feel cheap.  The advantage of leather is that you can control the shape and thickness to achieve different effects. It does make the strap stiff at the beginning, but breaks in nicely. Give it some back and forth motion for a few minutes before you put it on the watch.

Cork may be a good option. I have never worked with it though.

Finished strap number 3. Really happy with how this one turned out.

It's python with stingray keepers and tribal stitching. The stingray was surprisingly not that bad to cut.
