Nikosaldente 630 Posted March 4, 2017 Thanks Gentle. I am so torn between either this or the Portuguese. The only thing holding me back is the size of Portuguese. Wish that one was 46mm like this one!! But I like the look of that better than Pilot and have other high end gen Pilot's too. Movement wise, how is the 52111 in these Pilot's? Is the sweeping second needle identical to gen's? I know the modified movement in Portuguese is quite good being the 79350. The gen 51111 has 21600 bph whether the ZF has 28800 bph! It has a smoother sweeping movement than the gen! It's looking better in the eye and only a specialist can notice the difference! Cheers!

But I like the look of that better than Pilot and have other high end gen Pilot's too. Well, how big is your wrist? If it's below 7.5 in (19cm) the portuguese will not look bad (I tried it on and I have 7.7 inch, 19.5cm wrist) Movement wise, how is the 52111 in these Pilot's? Is the sweeping second needle identical to gen's? Nope: the gen is 21600, the rep with working power reserve is 28800. The one with NO working PR is instead 21600 like the gen. I know the modified movement in Portuguese is quite good being the 79350. Depends which one. Take the "slim movement" one.

Tried buying this one but apparently issues with payment processing so waiting to hear back from the seller. I believe this is the slim one; http://www.theonewatches.ru/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=4821 I typically like big faces and my wrists can fit them fine, even though not sure how big exactly my wrists are. I have a gen Hamilton Khaki Pilot and gen Breitling Navitimer World which are both 46mm and I think they look fine on my wrist and have good presence. That is also one reason I rather not get another Pilot. Hopefully I won't regret it I guess.
GenTLe 1,501 Posted March 4, 2017 Yes that's the new slim movement one
elicohen 0 Posted March 28, 2017 I have the exact same watch, and I must say I adore your photography! To be honest, it looks much better in the photos than in reality I cannot explain it, but when I wear it to work, and take the elevator I can see preying eyes calling Fake! Fake! But again, it may be its size. Or the too small "schaffhausen" marking. I miss the lack of black stitching at the back at the strap, and without a lupe I could not see the round marking on the power reserve dial.

Or thinking that's a bloody big watch to wear to work (Assuming you wear a suit)...?
elicohen 0 Posted March 28, 2017 I sometimes wear a suit. I am a programmer. But work in a very big office building with floors holding lawyers and accounting firms. Their cars are not fake, so assume neither are their (mostly) Rolex and occasional Patek. I do hope they do admire it, though! I have to say, I have two gens, the 2000 aquatimer and chrono top gun. Proud wearing them, but constantly concerned of scratches and bumping into things and damaging them. Not to say imagining them robbed everytime I leave the house. So what can I say.... andrewgldn 0 Posted April 12, 2017 Thanks for the post. Always assumed that this watch would be too big for my wrist. I should head down to my AD and check. Hard to resist, especially after looking at these pics. Andrew is always great. Have a 5007 in process with him now that I hope to see stateside soon. ticktockmydickdoc 0 Posted June 17, 2017 What's your wrist size, OP? I'm pretty sure 46mm would be too big but I've never actually tried one on, and I really like this watch!
hwlexus 0 Posted June 18, 2017 Nice review and very tempting. Might not be suitable for my small wrist.
alanArgon 1 Posted June 30, 2017 Can I ask if the blue tint on the sappire for this is obvious - means it sweeps as a whole line or nband across the dial? Cos IMO, the current 5009 is quite accurate (especially with the working PR's rivet in metallic colour - as compared to the all black rivet in the old models 5004 with faux PR) So the only tell for those who know IWCs esp the Big Pilot woud be the Blue tint and the crown. the gen crown is just too hard to rep I guess. So if there's the most tell-tale sign is the blue tint. I am wearing the faux PR 5004 big pilot and regreat doing the double AR to the sappire cos it know no longer has the trade-mark blue IWC tint. Comments please?
hwlexus 0 Posted July 8, 2017 Got a chance today to wear one of this 5009 owned by my friend. It's very very nice but really too large fir my small wrist.
