Converting 2824 to quartz

Recommended Posts

lexidium

I have a Seamaster pro 300 with a 2824 movement which is goosed so I'd like to try and convert it to quartz.

I read that the isa 1198.32 quartz movement is the one to replace it with and only the seconds hand is different.

Has anyone ever tried this?

I don't know what the distance is from the centre to the date on the quartz. Presumably it will fit ?

How to hold the quartz movement in place?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're not going to like this answer, but I think you're better off getting a rep 2541.80.0 altogether.

I can understand wanting to put in a new movement and keep the watch alive, but why not find another a2824 movement and drop it in?

A brand new a2824 will run you $70-90 on the bay, and I'd be willing to wager that would be cheaper than the all in bill of trying to convert to quartz, between all the trials and errors and time and effort you'll sink into it.

and if it works you will have a quartz watch that you will hide in a drawer.

That would only be someone who wanted to fool everybody that he had a genuine omega watch.
