Tech nerd assistance needed (again)

Recommended Posts

BadPickle

Most who know (of) me will probably know what I do for a crust, not being too tech savvy I just sorta bumble along as far as computers/internet and all related stuff, I know what I need to know etc...

Setting the scene......

I have a website, send/receive emails from the same name thingy, easy so far, but as of late my potential customers are telling me they've not received them, I'm telling them the ol' check your junk/spam folder and what not, but still nothing. Now one or two I can sorta live with, but SIX since the weekend is a but much doncha think?

Looking in my sent box it says they've left my world....

Anyone know what the beef is? Or how it can be fixed?

Mail deliverability is a pain, especially from your own domain name.

Basically whenever your customer's internet providers receive mail they take a guess whether it's spam or legit email, and assign it a score. If the score dips too low, the mail will be rejected. Your score can be affected by a bunch of things, from sending too many e-mails to having too many people mark your email as junk.

There are things you can do to increase your score by verifying that the domain really belongs to you. If you don't have them already, you can set what are called SPF and DKIM records on your domain that authenticate that your e-mails are really being sent by you. Having valid SPF/DKIM records will help with the deliverability.

What e-mail provider (Gmail, Comcast, etc) and domain provider (GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc) do you use? I may be able to help you find specific instructions for your ISP. If you want to PM me your domain name I can check and see if the SPF/DKIM records are set.

Could it be anything to do with my website being in limbo at the moment, by that i mean it has no content at all. The previous host, who was a friend of mine, built and hosted the site for me, but after a rather heated discussion about money (yes i did flush out his central heating system and fit a new filter/pump/pcb etc for pretty much nothing) i "fucked him off" and just host it myself through wordpress.

I never got round to building it up again as i'm flat out working anyway so i didn't need the extra hassle, but is this making my email suffer?

the email is through gandi

:)

I second Gmail! Its the best right now as far as i know, then App helps you navigate very easily, not to mention it separates important emails from junk and promotions automatically

He's probably disabled your email service. Have you still got control of the domain name?

you say some are getting through some not ?

I would set up a gmail account and a Hotmail account and resend the failed emails to them and see if they come through ok if all ok then it sounds like the receivers mailbox are blocking/filtering them! have you received any bounceback messages ?

I also suggest using Gmail, you can have your own domain with the added reliability. PM me if I can help.

Have you got access to cPanel to see actually what happens when you hit send?

Check your domain / server ip ( I'm assuming shared server) against black lists.

I had a stint back when we had a shared server where another of the hosts customers was spamming, was a PITA to sort the blacklist.

I'm actually interested by google business email, it should be bulletproof and emails are the life blood! Plus 0 chance of IP blacklisting
