Rolex 5500 explorer franken Completed :)

Recommended Posts

Moondustesp

Here is my next project. A 5500 explorer using a genuine 5500/1002 case set with genuine caseback, crown and bezel. Once again like my 16014 project I had intentions of doing the build myself but I have invested too much into it to mess it up so may have to have a chat with Rolie and practice on something cheaper. I am using a 2824 movement (I know I know) with a yuki dial and riyi rivet bracelet. So here is the some of my parts and I will update at some point with build and or finished pics. Have a great day guys 17CEF561-084E-4F54-B2F9-3888D30C8646.png

Sorry about the bad pic :(

Good luck mate my mate had a gen handed down to him by his dad - and Rolex replaced the dial for an air king dial!!! I was able to hook him up with a yuki "precision" dial to put in his gen 5500 - a reverse frankin if you will. haha

Thats nuts unless they rolex thought it was a redial? Who knows. History of these seem to be cloudy

His dad bought it in the naffi in Singapore during national service I think. I guess Rolex wouldn't have been able to replace the dial he shattered the plexi glass and scratched the dial and bashed hands with a squash racket. Sent it via the local Rolex dealer and it came back an airking under rolexes replace like new policy and knocking 5 grand off the value at the same time. I've heard of them redialling milsubs to this misfortune of owners.

I'd like to know which other movements would fit on the 5500 case with an explorer dial from yuki.

Thanks!
