What watch to wear to a wedding?

Recommended Posts

klt11

I have my cousins wedding coming up in 2 months and I'm picking the outfit now. I've got a beautiful black suit a hand made pair of shoes and now I'm indecisive on what watch to wear. I think it would make sense to go for a Patek calatrava which would slip right under the cuff of my shirt but I find them very simple. So please throw me some options!!! Leather or bracelet, 40-44mm, something with a little something something to it!!! Give me some ideas

Cheers

You have a calatrava? It's about the ultimate dress watch so go with that.

A gentlemen's dress watch is the most elegant of watches. It has one purpose and that’s to tell time. It should not have complications. It needs to be simplistic. Elegant. And above all, minimalistic. It isn’t some gaudy watch that’s bejeweled with diamonds or a chronograph that is so big it looks like a clock. It is subtle, understated and charming.

The Calatrava is the PERFECT choice. On a dress watch, even having a DATE complication is going too far, and a second hand is optional. Think of it this way, in a situation where a celebration is taking place, or a formal dinner, being concerned with time is considered to be rude. Your timepiece should reflect that you acknowledge that you're at the event to celebrate, not to be on a schedule.

Isnt the JL SS ZF better then?

The Calatrava is the dressiest of dress watches, and would be right up there for me.

Other options would be AP 15400, Breitling SOH, Cartier Santos or a nice Nautilus of some variety.

Reverso? I've been looking at a few lately myself, they have a chic hard to surpass. Otherwise if you own one a Calatrava is a good shout.

....Or you could also pick up a new Tuxedo Portuguese? Have to throw an IWC in because, well, my obsession!

I don't wear a watch to a wedding at all. If I would I would go for a dress watch a simple two hand watch. So no date and no seconds.
