Good post here, I'm trying to compare the two brands as well. There was a post in another forum which went down recently so that is no longer available. Could someone offer some comparison shots between the GEN, ZF and YLF? Much appreciated!

Not a review. Moved to General Discussion.

YLF has better subdials and ZF is known for having very bad quality control. I've had a few ZF IWCs and all of them had issues: dust on the dial or movement problems within a few weeks from arrival.

The ZF you posted is the one with the old movement and is too thick, they've since released a new version with better movement. YLF also uses this new movement which is more reliable and thinner.

Besides the subdials, there is not much of a difference between both, so YLF would be my pick.

I think someone did a comparison ZF v YLF over the other site before it went down

Basically you r trading one problem for another

YLF:

Pros - Better dial printing (location of swiss made line & the schaffhausen line relative to number 3

- No shiny subdial (if you r buying 3714 with white subdials)

- Better engravings on the movement plates

Cons: the white dial is of a pure white color so not the off white/metallic silver per gen

ZF:

Pros: - Better dial white (more true to gen)

Cons:

- Dial printing is off (compared to YLF)

- No engravings on movement plantes

- Subdials on white subdial models are super shiny

Conclusion for me(this is a very personal choice and please do not take this in any shape or form as a recommedation to buy either of the 2): buy the black dial versions from YLF, that way you avoid the one Cons they had and gain all other pros

But then again we are all here for the legendary white dial blue hands combo arent we lols

I posted on RWI before it went south, here're the pics again, YL on the right with sticker and stock black strap, ZF on the left with custom strap

YL dial has a cream white lacquer/glossy finish in some angles while ZF dial has a silvery white, grainy matte dial

I can't be sure which one has the better size/boldness of dial printings of "IWC" and "chronograph automatic" etc. maybe experts can chime in

Also the YL is about o.2mm thicker than the ZF measured with calipers. None of them are actually at 12.3mm per gen, although the differences are virtually discernible on the wrist.

Here're a few more pics I snapped outdoors on a cloudy day:
