Just broke 3 of the unwritten watch buying rules...

Recommended Posts

dfq23

I just bought a gen from Ebay....

It doesn't have the papers...

It's an over priced quartz...

AND I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Had a hankering for something nice as not been "in" to watches for a while and was browsing the internet this morning and thought I'd give Fleabay a look, so I did a few searches on models and brands I have always liked. One of the first results, newly listed stood out.

Listed as being used but mint unworn condition. Comes with a service box and instructions but no warranty. It's a quartz but I'm no movement snob and it also means pick up and wear ( I so rarely wear one of my "nice" ones lately, the less fannying about the better) and no service costs later down the line.

First Check - Is it a rep? One of the pics showed the hang tag on it. Yep model numbers all match up and I know they don't rep this exact model so one test passed and in the pics it does look a minter

Second Check - Is the seller legit? UK watch dealer with over 4000 transactions and 100% feedback so yep, happy with that!

All looked good in the pics. Quick check on usual price of this model. £1050 RRP but can be had for about £800.

Taking a Best offer, i'll stick one in. Oh he has already had 30....

FUCK IT!! BUY NOW!!!

So....

One of these will be with me Friday

For £480 delivered. Nice saving and I doubt I'm gonna lose anything on it at that price! The strap on it's own costs £200!!!!

Plus when I mentioned it to the other half one she rang she said "i'll get it for your birthday next month if that's what you want"

So even better!!!

FREE WATCH!!!! WOO HOO!!!!

Now you've really screwed up. The unwritten rules are now written down. Nice pickup. I've bought gens from eBay before. As long as you're smart and careful it's not a problem.

Is that 40mm?

Yep mate. More of a dress style diver which is kind of what I wanted rather than the tool style

The price of a decent rep now it sometimes makes more sense to check out cheaper gens. Already saving my pennies for the next Ashford's Black Friday deals!

There is a rep of this on bracelet (but not on rubber) but quite easy to tell the differences. Japanese quartz movement rather than a Swiss Ronda one means the date wheel is slightly off. You can tell by the ribbed outer dial ring cutting the date window on the centre of the rep but slightly further to the left on the gen.

Plus on the rep the pearl is more inset and slightly smaller lume whereas on the gen it's larger and more flush with the bezel.

Although most would never notice these and it's only $178 from Josh

The crown is smaller and the bezel engraving is the wrong size too on the rep, I had one and compared it visually at the AD.

That is a nice pick up, but knowing you it will be up for sale soon!

Don't forget also that the word Tag on the logo is much thicker font on the gen.Lol you after first dibs mate?? I know you like an Aquaracer!
