RepGuy 108 Posted July 22, 2017 I posted a while ago questions as to if any members had experience with a subscription called WatchGang. They offer recurring monthly plans and deliver a watch each month. Back when I original asked members, nobody seemed to have any experience, and the general consensus what that the watches wouldn't be worth it in the end, which I agreed with. Back then, I believe the only package they offered was one for $29/m, and you were supposed to receive a quartz watch. I saw an advertisement for them recently, and it appears that they offer two additional packages now, called Black ($99) and Platinum ($299). I have been reading/watching reviews on the Platinum package, and it looks like there have been some positive changes since I last looked into them. They still offer the Rolex raffle every Friday, but with this Platinum package, the watches are supposedly guaranteed to be either a Japan or Swiss automatic movement, and claims that the watch value will be between $500-$1500. I immediately thought they were taking the "Retail MSRP" for their valuation, which we all know is bogus, but I was surprised to find through the reviews that they apparently use the real market value of a watch as the valuation (so no $1500 MSRP Invictas). In addition to this, their past watch partners, at least for Platinum, seem to be solid brands like Lum-Tec, Deep Blue, Aragon, Out Of Order, and others that I know are worth at least $500. They also now offer the ability to set watch preferences (case size, type of watch, band/bracelet,ect.), which is supposed to help you get a style that fits into your tastes, which hopefully would help with the randomness of the watches you could get. I am in no way affiliated with them, and get nothing for telling you all about this, but I think I am going to give them a try for a month with their Platinum and see how it goes. At best, I get a Rolex in their drawing, and at worst, I get an automatic watch worth a few hundred to a thousand more than what I paid. If any members have any experience with them since my last post, I would love to hear about your experiences before I buy a month package later this week. RepGuy 108 Posted July 22, 2017 I have a bridge for sale, barely used, special price Do you accept pocket lint? But on a more serious note, the reviews seem to be fairly good on the new plans, so I was trying to get member input, whether good or bad. Your input is appreciated. Wriggles 12 Posted July 22, 2017 As my old man says, paper never refused ink, or in this case a computer screen never refused pixels. The business model: People pay us Y in subscription. We give in return goods worth Yx5 every month Great business model. Or great con So about that bridge...
tomtom1988 54 Posted July 22, 2017 Seems like a shit deal, you pay $3600 dollars a year to wear a watch valued between 500-1500 dollars and change it monthly? Hideous idea me thinks, $3600 will buy you a used Rolex, Cartier, Breitling, something along those lines, I'd rather have one of those on my wrist and actually know I own it
Genius 281 Posted July 22, 2017 The platinum is basically every month you get either a half price or even up to 70% off a watch.... But you have no choice whatsoever on the watch... Or you can shop around for sales and pick yourself a watch whenever you see one with a similar discount.... Who the fuck wants someone else deciding what watches you buy?????? But you also get a raffle ticket ;)

We give in return goods worth Yx5 every month Great business model. Or great con So about that bridge... I appreciate the input. While as a general business model, selling goods for less than you paid is indeed bad, I know the company isn't paying that price. If I had to guess, I would imagine they have a few things going for them to bring these prices down: 1. They definitely get wholesale prices 2. They may get even lowered prices by purchasing larger amounts of a company's less popular or lower selling models 3. This goes back to the wholesale thing... They have a set amount of people who pre-pay, most likely before WatchGang make purchase orders, which gives them the ability to go to these companies with large, guaranteed, orders. This may further lower the their cost due to the companies being able to have set amounts of product moved very quickly. 4. Many Platinum brand partners are micro brands (which I love). This is probably a great way to get the brands image out there, which may further incentivize the brands to offer WatchGang favorable prices in order to build a consumer base. These are all assumptions, but I believe a mix of these are in play to allow for the business model to work. I was skeptical as well, and as a result, looked thoroughly into reviews, and haven't found any red flags as of yet.

SuperbMonster 4 Posted July 22, 2017 I look forward to your feedback after the first month. As each watch you receive will be worth a few hundred to a thousand $ more than you paid I assume you are going to sell them instantly and buy the watch of your dreams? Maybe take a few subscriptions out and retire early?

I often like styles that others do not care for, so while there is a chance the watch sent out may be a company's less popular model, that doesn't mean that I won't find it appealing, especially if it is a dive watch. I intend to write an honest review of whatever watch I receive, whether it be good or bad, and hope other members will get some interest out of at least the process if nothing else. It's kind of like the DHGate purchase for micro-brands . Their watches ship out on the 16th of each month, so I'm hoping to have it in my hands around this time next month. RepGuy 108 Posted July 22, 2017 It's just pot luck though, you either get a watch you like or you don't... Everyone could use a gamble every once in a while. At least this one is cheaper than a casino trip . I do have high hopes for this endeavor, although I am realistic about the potential outcome.
Genius 281 Posted July 22, 2017 Out of the 7 past watches they show there's only one I'd be really happy with. There's three I'd be pissed off having spent nearly $300 on. And you can be sure they showing the best of as the examples on the signup page! Just looks shit odds to me

Just looks shit odds to me I looked at that, as well as reviews of the past few months of Platinum and found most of the watches sent out to be a good value and something I wouldn't mind wearing. I wouldn't have bought every watch I read about if on my own, but I would definitely wear most of them and have little problem getting them that far below their real value. The problem is “real value” looking at the 7 I'm struggling to see real value at $275 in a lot and that's the best of the bunch they are showing to get you to sign up. Buy all those watches sell them all brand new and you lose money

Like I said, it is a gamble, but I'm hoping to get something I like. If not, it was a learning experience and I went in with realistic expectations. I'll update everyone when I receive the package next month

Sledge 0 Posted July 23, 2017 I subscribe to their service. Their platinum offering this past month I would rate as average. I did score a Maurice Lacroix on their Centum ($1000) subscription but my ($300) platinum subscription watch was meh although I do see the Glycine watch for sale at 499 at the cheapest... All in all I have received 7 watches from them and been very happy with 5 of them.

Sledge 0 Posted July 23, 2017 This was a deal they offered only to 100 people.. $1000 buy in and they guarantee the watch to be between $1500 and $5k. The ML watch I scored can be found for $2999 at the cheapest... So I scored on their Centum. I don't believe the Centum is monthly but I will try it again. Platinum is rather new this months for me was a Glycine was an open heart gold with brown leather band. Nice watch just not my thing. My other Platinum watch was a NTH watch which was exceptional. I have also scored an Air Blue, Citizen, Balmerto name a few. Quite a bit of microbrands but overall the service is pretty cool to see what you are going to get... I'm glad to hear you have had a mostly positive experience though.
