Like it very much except for the two "rivets" on the dial.

Correct though for certain ancient Panerai's...

Hmmmm.

Looks great! Very minimalist as well as masculine with the dial and strap. It being a homage doesn't bother me at all, D.! I'd be glad to wear it. Congrats!

No, these are being sold by River, and the photos are his. He's a TD here, and on homageforum.com. Price is $330 including shipping.

I am contemplating picking one up.

To be fair river made a decent stab at this watch.

The WL is a watch that divides over on HF, personally I love mine which was made by Esdee and was a limited run, not cheap either.

The rivet dial as stated is a correct period dial during transition I'm sure ALES ref will cover somewhere.

Again the dial to have was made by radiomires years back onHF

Pic of my WL

At the risk of boring you the dial construction

Fine looking watch. If I were you Daffy I'd snap his hand off for it.

The choice to go "unbranded" is a good one. One of the points I tried to make in my write-ups of the PAM 520 and PAM 288 reps I have is that the quality of these watches stands on it's own, and that I thought that they would be worth MORE as unbranded homages as opposed to illegitimate counterfeits. The Chinese are missing the point that the Japanese figured out in the camera industry: The Japanese camera industry started out with Nikon copying and then improving the German Contax cameras, and everyone else (Canon, Minolta, Nicca nee Yashica, and several others) copying the Leica. They built up their manufacturing infrastructure building perfect copies, then started improving on them, each taking different paths. Eventually they were no longer copies and became distinct brands that competed in their own right with both Germany and each other. And in the end they essentially put the German camera industry out of business.

It's funny that now these "Japanese Leica Copies" are often worth more than the camera that they were copied from. Leica IIf's and IIIf; are in the $200-300 range for a decent body these days. A good Canon or Nicca body is worth double that. Nikkor lenses (Nikon) were first sold as OEM lenses on many of these and are direct Leica lens copies. They are worth more these days in some cases than the Leica originals (and are every bit as good, if not better).

The Chinese have not yet transitioned away from making counterfeits. The next step however will be to sell unbranded, or home-branded "homages", and then when market acceptance permits to simply start producing watches that are derivatives of existing designs and then finally clean-slate designs to compete on the world market.

I would pay MORE for one of the PAM 520 or 288 reps if it did not say "Panerai" on the dial. Personally would be more likely to buy this watch ^^ if it had a sterile dial. Why put anything there? "Panerai" makes it a counterfeit, "Marina Militare" makes it a homage. My wish? Leave it sterile and let it be ambiguous.... If it were sterile I'd have one ordered already.

Yeah.... i collect cameras too. It must be a genetic thing.

There are already quite a few brands that I've started to notice that do exactly this. Having only looked at pictures I can't say much about quality but essentially they're offering versions of popular watches like Submariners (even Nautilus) but with a different brandname.

There is a market for it, so logically there are those who will supply
