DhGate vintage daytona vs. franken daytona - Championship fight time

Recommended Posts

OK, so looking at the contenders one comes in at $600-800 and the other at less than $60 shipped. Two black dialed vintage daytonas. The franken has a DW dial, gen plexi, thin aftermarket hands, and an Athaya crown. The DH, well, came shipped free in a box. Off to the pics, note that they are a tiny bit different in diameter. The subdials on the DH are different since it is a quartz.

Off to the pics.

Similar construction, same bracelet, slightly different clasp. Note that the clasp difference also shows up on some of the cartel ones. People have commented that the bracelet is shit....well that is a correct bracelet.

Note that the case on the franken one has been modded a bit too.

Honestly pretty good if you just want to try a vintage daytona on for size. It probably won't depreciate.

I think at least from the pictures the cheap one looks more expensive maybe it's the texture in the subdials

Yes the subdials are wrong in the quartzer - secs @6 and the @3 dial shows 24 hour time. This is a sign of two things. First it isn't a gen vintage tona. Second it is running a good Japanese microstepper quartz movement. Which will keep perfect time and won't break if you actually use the chrono. A handsome little watch and wonderful value for money.

I'm with Genius

The gate model looks more expensive

And it appeals more to me through the sub dial spacing, colour, size, shape and most importantly, price

I had one but was too small 38mm think. Needs a leather cuff strap under it.

Oh and some lume would have been nice. Lovely little jewel of a watch though.

The DH versions of all the popular reps are to this standard of build and accuracy.

Q Why pay £600 for the best sub when you can get a Regmariner?

A because you do care about accuracy

If not buy the cheapest version possible or maybe an Alpha? Or Invicta.

But let's not pretend there isn't an enormous gulf between these two.

Just my opinion.

Did you say Invicta? You know what that means.

I rest my case. That's as close to a Rolex as a DH rep.

Frozen seconds = "No Sale" to me, so the cheap one wins here.

I believe the cumulative chrono hours counter at 6 o'clock position is the hand that is frozen. Not very noticeable even when chrono is running.

I just won't buy things that don't work, no matter if it's noticeable or not. I'm not trying to fool anyone, I just like a watch that works. I sold a very nice Pam chrono rep lately that had a 60 minute scale on a subdial but the movement was set up for a 30 minute register there. I couldn't accept the 2 minute per minute advance of that hand. Frozen dial? Not for me...

I hear you. I cringe everytime I see a foreign car in the States with its country of origin plate on the front. Serves no purpose.

I can't find this watch anywhere on DHGate. That site is impossible to find stuff.
