Why do people advise against Gold Rolex or Ap's?

Are the replicas not plated with real gold?

And does that advice include the gold used in the dials at all?

Thanks

AFAIK the Gold plating on some reps, has been reported to not last very long on some. Although some people will say it has lasted them forever. There is a thread on gold plated reps here http://www.rwg.bz/board/index.php?/topic/34287-Question-about-gold-plating..

Thanks have read that one.

Is there anywhere to get chinese dealers that are honest and tell you what they have plated it with I don't mind if its not real 100% real gold especially if its been used on dial work.

Like the other thread says, dealers just purchase from a factory, and unless they are there when the plating is done, have no idea about coating quality. Excuse the pun, but the chance of getting an accurate number is minimal due to Chinese whispers and wanting to make a sale.

I cant personally comment on gold rep quality and only know what I've read.....as I look like an idiot in gold.

Remember you're taking a bit of a chance on every aspect of your purchase when it comes to a rep, not just the coating. For that reason I would say you have zero chance of knowing exactly what you're getting.

I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable guys that have purchased gold reps will be able to give you a much more educated answers. There will be people on both sides of the fence.

Just don't make it your daily wearer and you'll be fine.

People have negative opinions about every rep watch for various reasons. All that matters is if you like it... if you want an all gold model, go for it

I doubt that there is any gold at all in these watches.  If you notice many  lower priced 'Gen' watches that are 2 tone say "gold tone SS".

Good chance they are made in the same type of Chinese factories.  That said, I have some all gold and 2 tones now about 10 years that have held up well. The crowns seem to be first place to wear.

Reps usually start to show their stainless steel 'roots' especially the crown and the casework near the crown (for obvious reasons).
