Watch Cabinet Project

If you're going to be spraying the spray glue into the cabinet, for any reason, mask off with paper EVERYTHING. That shit likes to bounce back out in a cloud and puts it everywhere.

Be it a cabinet, drawer, anything box-like.

Invest in a big Hot-Glue gun.

It's great for EVERYTHING crafty.... I had no idea how useful it would be but after using it for my own watch-box assembly, it's my go-to for crafty-glue.

Hot glue is great, useful but spray adhesive can be a lot more efficient for certain tasks, felt for example (You have to choose the right spray adhesive though, there are hundreds of different types).

I usually use hot glue like a tack weld on non-metal materials.
My biggest advice with hot glue is to go with a mid to high end hot glue gun, it's less messier (fewer strings everywhere) and a lot faster to heat up.

Yes, get the mid-high end ones with the large sticks, not those cheap ass little ones.

THOMMO & FL13:

Can you guys tell me - what are the dimensions of the squares you are making for each watch to fit in?

Shit mate, I'm not that technical!

I put watches in the space I wanted them, decided that 5 was a good amount and would accomodate larger models such as PAM's and divided 31cm by 5 to get a space of 6.2cm wide.

Here is the breakdown from my Homageforum Post: http://www.homageforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=39835

Based on the dimensions below, a 3"x3" square was the appropriate Internal size of each slot. The Poplar is 2.5". So 3x3x2.5Deep.

(2) 1/4" x 2.5" x 48" poplar boards from the Home Depot...

Cut the following:
(5) 9.5" boards
(2) 12.25" boards
(2) 11.75" boards

I have one of these, good for anything up to say 43mm but once they get any bigger they start touching.

My cabinet is a similar length, so I decided 5 across instead of 6 would be spot on

My Samsung Gear S3 is 46 mm and I'll say that the absolute max without having to worry about scratching the other one, but I put the cushion slightly angled to see the watch better.

Oh, and to make a pillow, cut a strip of material about 10" long and 4" wide.

Tri-fold it into a 3x4" rectangle with the finished side on the inside.

cvYNeNTl.jpg

Sew up the edges that aren't folded.

Flip one end inside-out, and stuff with cheap ass pillow stuffing or what I used, Fake decorative Snow (The almost cotton shit).

Flip the other side inside out and BAM a pillow.

@McGilli I personally think that like both FL13 and I have done and given the watches a bit more room than the 'cheaper' type watch boxes is a good thing.

No need to overcrowd your watches, and giving them more space just looks better

FL13, what is watch #2 and #7?

That's an easy way to make a custom pillow to size, nice!

These two?

One is a seiko mod. Swapped the quartz for an 6309 auto, changed the dial, rebrushed the case. Put a sapphire in place of the mineral.

G.Gerlach Aurochs. 113 made. So Beautiful and Sexy.

Can I still try to talk you into lighting?

Cold white LED-strips would do the part on the displays. Trust me.

It's not that I don't like the idea of lighting, but I don't think this cabinet is going to be living near a power source. I guess I could always hook some up and plug it in for photos etc

Get some battery powered ones. They make them for gun safes. You can even get ones that switch on by motion or button.
