HELP!! Broken clasp thingy

Recommended Posts

Thommo82

So the little pin thingy on the inside of my Speedmaster clasp has come loose.

To me it looks like a ball and socket type joint. I don’t see any trace of glue on the pin that may have been used to hold it in place, but it seems that the only way to fix it would be to glue it back in place.

Any help with this would be much appreciated

That is the "knob" from the counterpart of the clasp right?

Probably failed due to the strain and pressure from your massive wrists

The pin sits inside the hole, rounded side down

Hmm.

You din't show pics of the tiny hole where the pin is mounted, orignally. (That's just the hole it locks into).
Does the mounting hole go through the material? Or is it just a "dip" in it?

Did/does it look like this on the reverse of the clasp?

It goes through.

From what your saying it sounds like I thought it should be attached to the lock hole

So I can just glue it back in right?

I wouldn't trust glue to be a permanent fix. I'd be more inclined to wear it on a strap until i could get a replacement clasp.

I decided to glue it for now, and I’m actually about to order a leather Zulu for it.

If you can find glue strong enough.

You really need to push the pin back in (and hopefully it will protrude a little) and tap the back of the pin with a small hammer to spread the material so it looks like the second photo I posted.

Ideally you would use a nail punch to do this (and thus avoid damaging the clasp).

It only protrudes about a tenth of a mm.

Tried to spread it a bit but I don’t think it did anything

Maybe a dab of two-part epoxy (specifically for metal) will hold it, but it's probably a replacement clasp unfortunately.

Yeah, new clasp is probably best in the long run

Just ask an watchmaker to put in an new mushroom pin.
Took 20 minutes to make it fit and 15 Euro!

That‘s it.

You are missing the other piece that the post is compressed into that sits on the other side of the hole it anchors in. They are in effect a rivet, you won't reaffix even if you find it (they're a bitch, basically one hit to drive them together, balls it up and its move on to set # 2 etc etc).

or you could just rub some of that cream on it

;)

Literally used all of the cream up last night trying to make my cunt smaller....

So can I take it to a watchsmith like @Mr Seamaster said and get a new one in, or should I just get a new clasp?

Do step one.  In the event that step one fails, do step two.

The cream didn't work, you are still a massive cunt!

Solder it! Weld it! If all else fails, you can still put the clasp on and wrap some duct tape around the clasp once it's on the wrist.

Nobody ever looks at the clasp anyways.

  • Heat the oven to 205C/400F/Gas 6
  • Grease and flour a heavy baking sheet.
  • Sieve the flour into a roomy baking bowl then add the butter, baking powder salt and sugar if using.
  • Quickly rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  • Make a well in the centre and using a dinner knife, stir in the beaten eggs and enough milk to make a soft, lightly sticky but pliable dough.
  • Turn the mixture onto a floured board and knead very lightly until just smooth then lightly roll out to 2 cm / 3/4" thick.
  • Cut rounds with a 7.5 cm / 3" cutter or cut into triangles with a sharp knife.
  • Place on the baking tray and brush with the beaten egg and milk mixture. Bake near the top of the hot oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown and well risen.
  • Cool on a wire rack before eating.
  • This seemed to work for one off my PO clasps, good luck

Do I then eat it with Strawberry jam and lashings of whipped cream?
