Building a Franken Speedmaster MOTM

Recommended Posts

Hello guys and girls,

I have the idea in my head to build a Franken  "Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch", and so that you can't tell the difference between the real and the rep.

I looked at the Speedmaster piece of Trusty Time Andrew http://www.ttw-1388.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=35_81&products_id=15301 and after that, place a gen movement in it. From ofrei: The Omega 1140 movement.http://www.ofrei.com/page624.html

Will this work guys? And look close to gen?

Allready thanks for the response!

I was looking into doing a speedmaster build myself but after costing it I decided against. All gen but using equivalent lemania movement. You can pick up genuine speedmasters cheap enough especially the “reduced” automatic version. For me frankens are all about collecting the parts and the research. I really enjoy the whole process. Keep us posted on what you decide. Anyway here’s some speedmaster build porn http://64_AFAFA7-_FCA1-4_F61-_B582-3_B27_EB6_D2

Thanks for your response. Yeah it would come around 900 Bucks everything together. But the problem with the reduced is, that the quality is less good and the service cost (know some people that had to pay around 1/3 of the watch just for servicing). And really like the design of the MOTM. What would you advice then, maybe get the right dial/ hands etc?

Your watch looks awesome!

It just won’t work, the subdials are in different positions for a start off, the hand hole sizes are different for these  2 movements, the movements are different sizes, that’s even before you get into stem heights and chrono pushers positions.......

you’re asking questions which even a tinkerer who’s starting out would know, so I’m guessing you’ve probably not got the skills to do this kinda work anyway.

Sounds a a bit harsh mate, but that’s just how it is

Also the case size is way thinner on the gen the lugs are too thick and the tach bezels are too high on the rep - you’d be better off buying a gen second hand - I agree the reduced isn’t the one to get - have you thought about the limited edition rep the ed white one? I’ve a gen moon watch and I’ve always fancied one - it’s the straight lug case with a decent bezel - and frozen hand at six with a st handwind movement. ( the lines dividing the numbers on bezel are more like the gen and not extending to the very edge like most noonwarch reps).
