Oh man, I'm sweating for you!
Play it like it's "Operation" :Praying:

Maybe I should live stream it. Imagine your doctor live streaming your open heart surgery.

And the whole time you're thinking... it's a glossy black dial. Please don't let there be dust left.

Grease while I'm there.

Meh. Acceptable I'd say... given I'd wear this maybe twice a month.

Before I go on... unless a watch is in good mechanical condition and adjustment, it’s really a waste of time trying to regulate crappy reps within a dozen or so seconds per day. By ‘good mechanical condition’ I mean low-mid grade reps of which this is one.

Oh.

BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE HAIRSPRING—IT IS VERY DELICATE AND EASILY DAMAGED

Shaddup :)

I scratched the AR on the cyclops. Yeah, crappy rep with AR on the TOP SIDE of the cyclops. Oh well, can't really tell.

Well that’s the end of that.

Thanks to those that gently nudged me in this direction.

Thanks to me for not selling off all my watch tools like I said I would.

Was certainly fun. I don’t ever want to have to do that again — or look at the seconds hand too closely.

take the movement out and check if will stop.  i am sure the tip of second hand touch the sapphire, so the amplitude reduce about 100.

Agree with Mary, that amplitude drop is caused by drag placed by something, and most probably by the crystal and hand nearly contact.

EDIT: seen the rest. GOOD JOB!! :D

EDIT2: I imagined you moving that regulator and swearing badly... I laughed a lot!!!

What were you drinking throughout? Usually when I attempt this degree of tinkering at 3am  it's grappa or tequila.

Now wear the watch for a couple of days, as you normally would, putting it down at night, if you don't wear it asleep, and see what the real life error is.  If the real-life error is acceptable, brilliant. If it's unacceptable, use the timegrapher to remove enough error to leave a small + seconds per day.   If for example, it's +20 secs a day in real life, but only +5 on the timegrapher, adjust it to -10 on the timegrapher, and that should leave you about +5 a day in real life.   If it's -10 secs a day in real life, but +10 secs a day on the timegrapher, adjust to +25 secs a day.  The idea is not to use the timegrapher as an absolute reading, but a starting point for adding or subtracting the correction needed in real life, always aiming for it to run slightly fast in normal useage.  Since I'm correcting real-life errors, I only ever put the watch on the timegrapher face down so I can adjust with the back off.

Illustrates my reservations about GMTs. Too may fecking hands. In fact in my limited, and disastrous, tinkering experience, 3 is too many sometimes. I do think the thread contains a top tip though - always have a couple of stiff drinks before you start, makes you more adventurous, and steadies the hands.

Hey Light, you should have joined me at that warehouse sale. I ended up with 2 eco-drive, radio controlled Citizens. At 2am, deviation is exactly +/- 0 seconds.
