DIY Gen like Rolex Spring Bars

Recommended Posts

Nikosaldente

Hey guys,

This is a tutorial on how to customize yourself a simple spring bar to a Rolex Style Spring Bar meant to be used for any case that has Lug Holes!

I know you can get them online, but they are far more expensive than the simple ones. I think they're about £10 a pair!

If you do it yourself, it's cheaper, it's easy and it has a bit of a fun:D

Things you'll be needing:

A pair of simple spring bars, preferably the fat type with the tube size between 19mm and no more than 19.5mm.

A Dremmel type micromotor. I used a cordless one I got from Lidl Supermarket.

A steel file!

You begin by inserting the Spring Bar in the Micromotor, where the burr goes:

You turn on the Micromotor in low-medium speed (no more than 6000-10000rpm), the spring bar begins to rotate and the Steel file is gently touched on it, as seen in the photo:

After a few minutes, this is the result:

If needed, file off the narrower tip.....

Remove  the Spring Bar, rotate it and reinsert it from the fixed end back into the Micromotor.

Repeat the grinding process.

Final result:

Pretty cool, huh? Told you it was easy!

Thanks for watching!

Good luck with your modding!

Here they are, mounted on my own build, a 16610!

I will have to try that. Easier than drilling lug holes to get those gen bars to fit.

They charge $$$ for anything "vintage".
Athaya charges US$ 2,50 for a 90/120 stem adapter that you can get at £0,85 for a lot of 5 pieces elsewhere.
But Athaya stem extensions are "vintage",

What is GREAT with that method is that you can modd the spring bars for 36mm watches with lugs  drilled at 0.9mm (not 1.3mm as the 40mm subs).

That's what I'm doing for my 5500 case
