sconehead 5 Posted January 5, 2010 Molnija stripdown...this movement was soooooo dirty/gummed up...look at the gubbins on the plates and generally everywhere else. I doubt this has ever been serviced, I really do... ...the movement was that gummed up that the pallet fork was stuck to the pallet bridge below... ...I had to use a link pin tool to push the the yoke out below, it was jammed solid... Off to the ultrasonic for a heavy duty clean now, then a thorough inspection as this movement clearly hasn't been looked after...more to follow soon... KBH 7 Posted January 5, 2010 Wow, I'm almost tempted to try that. All I need is an ultrasonic cleaner, oil and oilers, pin puller, tranquilizers and..... Oh, nevermind.

KB, these pocket watch/6497 type movements are not that hard to work on. The 2836-2's I've done are far more fiddly. I might try a 7750 soon, if I can service one of them, I guess I'll be able to do virtually any movement. Give it a go, you'll suprise yourself mate, I hadn't took the back off a watch to change a battery two years ago...
graman 2 Posted January 6, 2010 Certainly gives me an itch to try.....
KBH 7 Posted January 6, 2010 If you can do a 7750 you're better than a lot of watch makers these days. Although watch "makers" is a term that shouldn't be used any more. Watch repair men is probably more appropriate. I was reading somewhere that most repair men today can't totally strip down a 7750 chrono movement and put it back together.
