I think it is PT´s new pressure test equipment.

looks like a fancy timegrapher or pressure tester

It's a dry vacuum tester. The watch is placed in position with a very sensitive caliper guage measuring the watch thickness. When a vacuum is created, if the watch is airtight, the case expands slightly and this can be sensed by the machine. If it's not airtight, the pressures equalise and there is no movement.

If it is airtight with a crap crystal seal, the crystal pops off.

ohh that's cool!! so would that mean it's slightely waterproof? or am i wrong?

pretty sure it senses crystal deflection to test resistance to water...the case itself shouldn't expand

I think thats what black meant, not that the case expands but the case and crystal overall width

Correct. The overall thickness changes. Don't forget that with some watches, it may even be the case back that deflects.

Correct, it can be the case back in some instances. Bloody nice piece of kit that, not a cheap piece of gear at all.

Correct, puretime.

I had an amazing service with Angus and chatted a bit, wich usually td's don't do (in my previous experience)

Problem with vacuum testers is that it the extra pressure inside the watch is trying to blow it apart. Crystals aren't designed to take pressure in that direction. So there is a limit how much pressure differential you can measure safely. The positive pressure testers try to force the crystal tighter, as would happen in real life and they are designed to cope.
