Diver Dave 0 Posted April 9, 2017 (edited) On my wrist flying my MiG-15 over the Mojave Desert a month ago. I built this one up to wear while my usual Rolex was out for overhaul. I passed it on to another aviator after the Sea Dweller was returned overhauled. I did the mod to this one myself. These are darned good watches, certainly the best bang for the buck today. I use the bezel for fuel burn timing, which is critical when you're burning all of the gas out of the old jet in about an hour, and have four tanks to watch and pumps to manage. You are living my dream pal. Thanks. It's not a bad gig. That's instructing at the USAF Test Pilot School, at Edwards AFB where the old MiG is used as a student training aircraft for experience broadening. My watch hobby is actually building high quality Seiko based watches for working professionals, divers, pilots, soldiers, cops, and the like. The 007 base has been good, and I generally build watches using high legibility dials, domed sapphire, and other goodies. All are fully water tested and ready to go to work. My ethos is to build an honest tool that can be worn by a professional for a lifetime, and that should cost a mid level NCO or Junior Officer a weeks pay. Rolex met that mark with the Submariner in the 1960's, when they were sold in military PX's for about $200. Now it's at least two months of pay, and maybe more, for that same Army helicopter pilot, or Navy Diver. The Mod Seikos have been winners in replacing that niche. I have watches being worn by working professionals on all 7 continents right now, including Antarctica. Generally a full build will be a 007 case, with a NH35 hand winding and hacking movement, New Dial, New Hands, Domed sapphire, Murphy Bezel, new insert, and a sterile back which I have engraved for either the individual or for the unit. I'm doing a run of 25 right now for a military unit with custom back engravings. My watch mod name, EQV Watches, is the same as my personal motto: Esse Quam Videri, which is Latin for "To be, rather than appear to be". EQV Watches are build by a professional for other professionals. Ping if you want to know more about them. The one shown is now being worn by a professional flight test engineer who I expect it will serve for a lifetime. It's the simplest Mod I do, a simple redial of a 007. Dave . GenTLe 1,497 Posted April 10, 2017 On my wrist flying my MiG-15 over the Mojave Desert a month ago. Ok, I bet none can make a wristie cooler than this one. Unless from the cockpit of an SR-71... WTF, you look like the modern version of Indiana Jones
Thrichar 47 Posted April 10, 2017 Not as cool as the shot from the MiG, but it's in the kid's playroom at home, so, you know, close!
Diver Dave 0 Posted April 11, 2017 Not as cool as the shot from the MiG, but it's in the kid's playroom at home, so, you know, close! Certainly a more dangerous place... You might be present for a crapping when the Mrs is out and need to deal with a diaper change solo... ;-) Dave
