Welcoming the noobs 101

Recommended Posts

Harogut

Hi everyone my name is Harogut. I am a noobie to the RWG forum, however, I am not new to the world of watchery. I have been collecting for many years and have also been tinkering with them for a while. I specialize my area of collecting to "Automatic" movements, although I will bend my ways and fall for the occasional handwind. My favorite watch is the Rolex Submariner and although I can't afford one, I am also into Homages. I am currently building a homage sub with a ETA 2824-2 that I am salvaging from a later model GRUEN that I bought new a few years ago. Since the movement has"GRUEN" stamped on the rotor, I decided to have a custom dial done up just like a "Red" sub, but with "GRUEN Precision" at the top instead of the crown and Rolex. Hopefully I can get a pic or two up soon.

Thanks

As we grow, there are all kinds of questions that the noobs seem to ask. Instead of one of us trying to search our way through all the pertinent threads and posting them in the shoutbox, I figured I would start a thread and include all the basic info a noob needs to read. This will be a sticky and therefore quick to find and post so that all are in one place.

Hi to Admin and all members. New Noob here, Just in short from Australia, Seiko lover and collector as well some Citizens as well.

In reality can not afford real gen of Breitling and Omega watches ( btw these are two brands that I''m most interested in) and was for years thinking on going for reps of those.

Like the site, lots of info ,spend last few days reading posts on here in all different sections and find it very informative so far.

Hi, i would love to look at the section where i can buy from users but dont want to bother you all with my posts. Seeing how most people react to new users. Is there a way?

Because i want a cheap but good breitling navitimer

Yes, there is a way. Start a thread introducing yourself in the New Member section, where flaming is not allowed. Tell us a bit about yourself, where you are from, your interest in watches. If you already have watches post some pictures.

Interact in that new thread and you will have the 5 posts needed very quickly.

Avoid one-word or trite posts like 'amazing watch' or 'I like this' etc. Also avoid the 'Which dealer has the best Navitimer' post or thread.

You'll find it's not the fact that they are new users that winds people up, it's the arrogant and aggressive new users and those who can't be bothered to read anything, thinking we are a customer services unit.

Good luck and give it a go. We're actually OK.

Hi, and welcome. Yes there is a way. All you have to do is read the welcome letter you were sent when you joined and it will be revealed. There is lots to read and learn before jumping in to buy. That avoids a whole heap of pain and suffering which can arise if you buy without actually knowing what you are letting yourself in for. Work your way through the links below.

Depends on the dealer, shipping method, your loction, tracked or not,if you need triangular shipping and so on. Only way to find out is to email a TD. I've paid anything from free (not from a TD) to $40.

Hi new member here from Scotland, just soaking up as much info as I can, got a few gens and a few reps, main gen is my Tag professional, nearly 20 years old and still going strong, recently just added a nato strap to it.

Couple of decent reps, a Rolex DSSD and a Omega Seamaster.

Will post some pictures later.

David
