I_EXPLODE_WATER_MELLONS 0 Posted June 20, 2014 Hey guys. I'm looking to buy a replica seamaster from perfect clones. Perfect Clones is a 'trusted dealer' but there are a lot of red flags on their website. For example on nearly all the descriptions say '1:1 replica'. Also, on +50% of their descriptions it says "Made With A Genuine Watch Completely Dissected". That is clearly BS. Yeah right, you guys invested +$100,000 on buying gens. Sure... But, the quality of their watches in their pictures is pretty damn good. I'm really torn. What was your experience with p-cls.com? Sincerely, I_EXPLODE_WATER_MELLONS
jdog 1 Posted June 20, 2014 First it would be waaaay more than $100k. They are here for a reason. But mainly TO MAKE MONEY. And that takes among other things ADVERTISING. don't stress. Take a deep breath. Josh is great!
Cynikal.Mindset 1 Posted June 20, 2014 Use toro then if u are scared by PC hype
McJules 396 Posted June 20, 2014 and yes, makers do buy the gens to make the reps when they have high demand for a particular model, such as the blancpain FF, tudor blackbay, pam382 bronzo ect...
agntkerr 0 Posted June 20, 2014 Toro is much more easy on the paranoid.
sconehead 5 Posted June 21, 2014 ...'tis easy...just do your homework on which current model is the best seamaster rep available by reading the reviews on the forum...see which dealers have it available...then buy it based on price/dealer feedback... D_Chico 0 Posted June 21, 2014 I've been dealing with Josh from PC for a long time now..he's my number 1 TD! Although sometimes he does just copy and paste some of his wording in the watch descriptions, what he says is true! And he usually supplies pictures of the rep and gen together if he can.. Also look for links to recent QC pics of the watch you're looking at..he usually puts the link in blue letters by the regular pictures on the page..as far as thinking that those gen watches are purchased they're not! Some are but most aren't.. They're usually borrowed from various friends and gen dealers (probably for a little bit of monetary exchange or something of that nature) don't forget that it's the factories that make these watches not the dealers and they have to use gens to know how to build the rep! higher quality reps are usually built as close to the gen as they can get it! Now back to Josh and PC, It takes a lot to run a rep watch business as large as perfect clones! So little things like repeat wording and misprints on his website can be overlooked just by knowing what you're looking at is what you're going to get! Josh is top notch in many people's books! And for a good reason.. He responds quick, he doesn't sell garbage, he's competitive with pricing, he has a good QC process in place, and he's VERY clear about telling you what he's selling! If you ever have a concern with a watch just email him and I'm sure he'll be able to remedy any issues you may have! Good luck with your decision! I hope this response helps you! Take care and keep us posted as to what you decide!
Left Coast Guy 24 Posted June 21, 2014 Yeah, this whole process can be pretty sketchy...that's just par for the course, and unfortunately you'll be more sketched out when you go through the steps for payment. But, its all 100% normal and dealing with PC, you'll get a pretty solid product. Trust us, there are more than a few of us who's spent gen money with these TDs and are happy with what we've got....you will be too.
Pseudonym 0 Posted June 21, 2014 We're missing something here... It's not the TD that buy the gens, but the makers... Makes perfect business sense. Call it reverse engineering if you like. Buy a gen, disassemble, laser scan every part & produce cad/PDMS model... Re assemble, & sell. For the cost of flipping a gen - likely used if high value, you then have the 3D files to produce as many as you wish... Largely the side by side gen vs rep pics will be supplied by the Fac who was selected by the makers to produce. This would be the business model I would select if in the manufacturing business such as this... P.
Gsrhonda 0 Posted June 21, 2014 I just purchased my first watch from Josh. He was great. Answered all my stupid questions and got the watch out quick. Haven't received it yet as I am in the US, but he was great non the less.
D_Chico 0 Posted June 21, 2014 Oh also..this thread should not be under "scams" !! No TD is a scammer!! Posts like this go under "general discussion" or under the TD's subforum where you can post feedback and questions about certain TD's! Were here to help but you won't start off on a good foot by saying that a TD is a scammer or that what they say is "bullshit" ..they've earned the title trusted dealer because what they say and do has been proven true! How do you think these factories make these watches? By looking at pictures!?! Definitely not! Most good reps and 1:1's are made by dissecting the original.. And like I said before, those gens are usually borrowed from friends and other people in the business for the sole purpose of making these reps! Sorry for being so worked up about this but I understand your worries..just stick with us and do your research! Any dealer you choose will have their ups and downs and pros and con's but in the end you'll always have support from us here! Everyone has their favorite and so will you in due time..but the point I'm trying to make is that any trusted dealer you choose you can't go wrong! I promise! kromp 0 Posted June 21, 2014 Here you go, from Tits Mc Gee's insightful post about TD's.... Read it, know it, live it. Tits McGee, on 18 June 2014 - 02:51 PM, said: I've been a member of this forum for nearly 3 years now and have learned a few things about ordering from TD's. Please allow me to impart a bit of what I have learned about TD's, expectations, and this forum. I, like many noobs, jumped right in and began ordering watches from TD's BEFORE I thoroughly educated myself by reading and asking questions. I had many disappointments but in general, I've been pretty lucky. I've never had a DOA but have had a few with problems. I estimate I've ordered nearly 100 (total) new watches from all the TD's listed here. The few (6) I had problems with were ordered from dealers elsewhere. Therefore, I'll list a few of the things I ALWAYS DO now. 1) Identify, then RESEARCH the watch I want. RESEARCH means asking questions about the model I want in threads or by PM's, using the search bar on the top of every page is necessary. Establish relationships here and use the membership HERE to ask questions. I do my homework first, THEN once I'm sure I know what I want I contact a TD and inquire. Again, I always ask questions HERE first. 2) Contacting a TD and asking a question about availability requires a picture and communicating in a CLEAR and CONCISE manner. I ALWAYS send the TD a picture of what I want. I NEVER rely on their websites. In fact, I sometimes send a picture from a competitors website. I send a picture, ask specifics about the movement I want, case size, bracelet or strap, etc. No matter what your primary language is, ALWAYS send a picture of what you want. If I've done my RESEARCH, and if I've sent my PICTURE, I can almost always expect a clear answer from the TD. I have been told many many times the watch I want is unavailable. I then move on to my next TD and inquire the same way. By communicating in this manner, I have never had a TD accept my payment only to find later the watch is unavailable. Again, I've been lucky. If I've done my RESEARCH BEFORE I contact the TD, I can pretty much know what the status is before I inquire. Not always though, but the membership here is generally more than aware of who has what and is by far my best resource for information. 3) I DO NOT rely on TD's websites. Again, I DO NOT rely on TD's websites to be representative of the watch I want. I'm skeptical about QC pics also but that's just me. Have you ever seen a Burger King TV commercial where they show a real tasty burger with all the fixings? Then you go through the drive thru only to receive a cardboard box filled with slop that looks nothing like what you saw on TV. What you see on TV and TD websites is advertising. I tend to frequent restaurants my friends have told me are good. Same with the TD's. If I've done my RESEARCH correctly, I probably won't receive a bad meal. 4) I have learned to LOWER MY EXPECTATIONS. Why? Because I essentially have no recourse anyway. A TD here is simply a middleman who has earned a certain amount of trust within this forum. Nothing more. The Admins and Mods have deemed that TD is worthy to be called a TD, simply because the membership here have generally had good experiences with him. The TD's don't make the damn watches. They scoot around in the shadows of shady backstreet illegal businesses and find us higher quality watches than the open air markets. They're middlemen who generally don't carry large amounts of inventory. You ask for it and they go get it for you. Pretty simple. They're not a watch store at the mall. UPS doesn't deliver their inventory either. 5) If I have a problem with a TD or a watch I have received, I first take a PICTURE of the issue, take a deep breath, and humbly and appropriately communicate my issue to the TD. I NEVER start a thread whining about my issue. That's just plain stupid. I know that if I do that I'm pretty much on my own. There are people here who will help me IF I follow the forum guidelines. But I generally don't need their help if I've taken a PICTURE and emailed the TD and politely explained why I am not happy. I also realize the TD may not say what I want to hear. THEN I quietly contact a friend or Mod and ask for guidance. I've come to understand that this is not Macy's and I can't return a 30 day old pair of underwear for a full refund. If I have a mechanical issue, I bite the bullet and try to find a rep friendly watch smith. That is just me. Most, if not all TD's, will instruct you to send the watch back at your own expense for repair. But if I had done my RESEARCH properly beforehand I would already have known that. 6) I have learned that the TD feedback section is mostly about communication between the TD & I. I NEVER post negative feedback about post office issues. That is out of the TD's control. I NEVER post negative feedback about a TD unless I have already involved a Mod in my issue and he clears me to post. Delays in answering email inquiries after payment has been sent is a legit complaint. But I ALWAYS wait to post feedback until after I have received my watch. I never post order status reports because......who cares. We've all had to exercise patience. It's part of the deal. If I had done my RESEARCH beforehand I would have known that. If I receive a watch that is DOA or broken, I'll leave that in the feedback section (see #5). The most important thing I've found about the rep world and this forum in particular is to establish relationships, make friends, ask questions, take pictures, have thick skin, and try not to be an asshole. Even if I think I know better, I still try this approach because if I spin out of control and get my panties in a bundle....I'll have to go it alone. Edit: Text size change. All credit still goes to Tits Mc Gee for his sage advice, which I cannot link to for some reason.
myaz 3 Posted June 21, 2014 Factories can buy a gen to copy. It doesn't mean the gen then becomes worthless. it can be resold. Indeed 1:1 is poetic license.

andypandy1961 4 Posted June 21, 2014 Thinks about it pal, it's the factories that are making the watches and doing all the investing. The dealers are just buying from the factories an d selling on, so no investment needed
