scottamc 0 Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) I am interested in getting a Chopard GT XL (non chrono) - white face dial. A couple places I see them in the $300+ range for a Asian 7750 mvt. But on Timesshop.net they have an asian 2892 black face model on sale for $88. http://www.timesshop.net/product.php?id_product=4278. I really don't want to dip into the $300 range for my 2nd rep (I am trying to place an order with timesshop right now on their rolex sub deal for my very first rep). So what are your guys thoughts on a Chopard GT XL with an Asian 2892 mvt? Any other places to get a better version than the Asian 2892 below $200? Thanks for your advise. I have literally read hundreds and hundreds of posts in last two days. Edited November 4, 2010 by scottamc
spboudart 0 Posted November 4, 2010 I had 3 or 4 Chopard GtXL (non chrono) in the cheap version. I sold #1 because it was too noisy and the mineral glass was scratching too easily, then I missed it and bought another cheap one because I didn't want to spend the big bucks. Then put I sold the #2, bought a new one and again sold it for the same reasons. Finally, I ordered from Hont a a7750 version with sapphire, he sold it to me for 240$, and I love it! It's a beaufiful watch:
mspangl 0 Posted November 4, 2010 i got one from josh for 108$... and i love it
scottamc 0 Posted November 4, 2010 That is really a pretty watch. I love the black and white dials. But really want to go with white to mix it up. So you wouldn't recommend the 2892 mvt?
Silverspeed 10 Posted November 4, 2010 If it's really an Asian 2892 clone movement then $88 is an amazing price! Might be best to ask...sometimes descriptions can get mixed up I always thought the $100 Chopard GT XL's all had 21J movements
prestigewatchco 2 Posted November 4, 2010 There is no 2892 moment in the Chopard thats all bollox a 2892 costs more than a 2836 or a 7750 movement so rest assured that watch has nothing of the sort inside
scottamc 0 Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) I will email Mark and ask about the mvt then. most likely a 21j movement. mspangl, do you like the movement on yours? Edited November 4, 2010 by scottamc
KBH 7 Posted November 4, 2010 I had one for a while and put it on a Hirsch style racing strap. Non 7750 version. It was a nice watch but I got into Rolexes and sold it. I believe this is the Asian 2892 movement and it wasn't expensive. Whatever it is, it's probably what they are talking about.
spboudart 0 Posted November 4, 2010 Be very careful about the 21j version! On RWI, one was doing (a few years back) an european pass around tour and member over there gave her a nickname: Jet engine rotor!

Inushuk 0 Posted November 4, 2010 I got my white Chopard 1 week ago from Narikaa. It cost me 76£ and it is a Asian 21J so 21500 bph So the second hand clicks 6 per second and is not as smooth as if it was a asian 7750 at 28800 bph.. But it seems it keep time sharply as i did not notice any issue : it is on time My rotor is quiet and the watch is Very very nice in white wih it white rub bracelet. So nice that last week a Friend of mine saw it and asked for the same one. So I had to reorder one to Narikaa and it did arrived this morning.

AustinTech 0 Posted November 5, 2010 I had a white dialed one - it was LOUD and I sold it. Sounded like an airplane propeller or something.
scottamc 0 Posted November 5, 2010 Maybe the loud ones are coming from a particular source. @jojo - where did you order from? @austin - where did you get yours? Was it 21j version?

Baldrick 1 Posted November 5, 2010 The Chopard GT XL was always one of the better reps, some of the early models had loud rotors, ( members above who experienced this problem obviously didn't buy from dealers who carried out good QC checks such as TTK or Narikaa ), this problem has largely been resolved now, especially if you have it QC checked. As Robert says, no 2892 mov'ts in these, the standard Asian 21j is perfectly OK, as I say get your dealer to CHECK for excessive rotor noise ( but bear in mind that's subjective, some people seem unable to accept rotor noise, others dun bother their arse. If you buy one, the first thing you should do is get rid of the rubber strap, ( it will split eventually anyway ), and put it on a nice leather strap, the Jackie Icxx / Hirsch style straps look particularly good with this item, given the historic Mille Miglia connection, the other thing you MUST do is ask your dealer to check the CLASP for a tight fit, some early versions lost the snap friction fit on the clasp and would flop open, other than that it's a great rep, I can't see why you would need either a 7750 movement or to spend more than say, Narikaa asks for his versions which are all QC checked prior to delivery. KBH 7 Posted November 5, 2010 What nice pictures TTK used to take! They almost make me want another one.

And THAT is the benefit of buying from a dealer who specialises in QC iby spending time checking your item, rather than spending time passing the parcel with confirmation photographs that show and are only as good as that moment in time
Pob 73 Posted January 20, 2011 Lol i think i just decided on my next rep The white dial, but don't know from whom and what movement. But the search is down to details now
