Mine should be here tomorrow :)

Question I have been meaning to ask, have you a photo of the back light? Is it the old type weak single lcd type light, or does the whole display illuminate?

It'll be a proper EL backlight on that one only ever seen the single Led type on really old casinos and the only time I seen it on a gshock was a rep

I have a feeling it will flip from negative display to normal while the light is active as I used to have one like that

Now please stop bumping this thread cos you are going to make me order one and I have too many G shocks already

It definitely is I was just drooling over the photos again and it says it on the face.

Another cool feature of the tough solar G shocks at least the one I have is it will kill the lcd if it's in a drawer so has no light so you see the display kinda fade back into action when you pick it up its really satisfying like watching an auto second hand start when you pick it up

Cool. My tracking states mine is in Helsinki, so should be here tomorrow, but if not, Tuesday the latest. Not been this excited about a new watch in a long time.

Hey guys, when the light button is pressed - all the digits light up. The whole display lights up but digits really lume up. You aren't gonna have a problem reading it. You can also set it to auto el when if you flick your wrist it lights up automatically but I don't have this on. I do however have the power reserve set to on meaning as 85genius says above - it will fade and go black until you expose to the light and then it comes back on. Remember though - this thing has a power reserve of 10 months apparently!!!

I've been wearing it for office work and it's so light I forget I ever have it on and I worn it for squash today and no doubt this watch can take a beating. The bracelet really turn this normal g-shock into something else.

Hey all,

Well after being truly fk'd off that my last rep lasted me all of 1 month before it topped out on me, I've decided to buy a trusty casio as a watch to bum around in.

It's model number GW-M5610BC-1ER. I got it from watchshop for the bargin price of £82. This is with discount code.

Some of the cool specs.

- Negative Display. Gives the watch a blacked out look. Also quite smart enough to wear formally.

- Like all G Shocks - highly resistant to impacts.

- Unlike most G Shocks - this square model is very low key, very light and sits great on the wrist.

- It also has a unique combination of SS and resin band. The band felt easy to adjust. Just needed a paper clip to push the spring bars out. Felt great not worrying about stripping a rep screw!

- It supports 6 radio bands - basically means at 12pm every night it will "check in" via radio waves via it's built in receiver to make sure it's timekeeping is always accurate and adjust itself automatically if need be. This is valid for Europe, The United States and Japan AND China.

- Solar Power!!! Quartz battery changes are so expensive these days. This is constantly charging from sunlight and artificial light and can survive 10 months in total darkness. No more worrying about picking watch up worrying it won't start.

- Water proof to 200metres.

Basically annoyed with reps at the mo. I was contemplating buying a cheap 21J watch but I thought is it worth it. Still about £100 odd quid from a TD but now I feel I just want a watch that is low maintenance and will hopefully never break down on me. Gonna wear it for exercise, squash and nights out on the razz where I don't worry about losing my expensive gen/reps.

Enjoy the pics next to my Hulk.

That looks very cool! I have a similar GSchock negative display and I totally love it. I always take it out in occasions that require a lot of shock/water sustaining such as snorkelling, swimming, hiking etc. This will sure last for a while. How's the lume? Is it automatic lume or you have to press it manually.

Both man. I like pressing it manually tho. Auto lume drains the solar power quicker apparently. But realistically probably won't make much difference.

Nothing beats a casio g-shock for a casual Saturday afternoon bbq or a pool party lol!

Wear it well bro!

Love it :D Managed to read some of the instruction manual :P With my Optivisor on though, damn the book is this for such a small sized book lol

Bracelet is cool in the way it adjusts. Reminds me of the good old days when Tonka toys were the best. Proper tool watch this :)

More than happy mate. A few things I done so far.

Changed the time display to 24hrs

Ensured Radio Control Receiver is switched to On :)

Thats about it, the one thing I can't figure out, or get to work is the auto backlight, which is supposed to illuminate when you hold the watch dial up, and then move it 45 degrees, i.e. to your face.

I have that feature on albeit a 15 year old model and find you need to give a pretty sharp jerk towards you to get the light to come on

I needed to activate it, i.e. switch it on under settings. Pressing pusher B for three seconds toggles between on and off :)

Lol don't like it at all but i'm glad you're happy :D

I'm thinking of getting gshock myself but not this one.

Maybe i just don't get it, maybe i would change my mind if i see it in person or try it.

I kind of like the retro feel, and look, plus its a great feature packaged tool watch, so anyone like me who likes their gadgets will love one of these :)

Good stuff then mate. FYI sometimes it fails to pick up the signal reception in the evening (you can push a button to see the time stamp of the latest pickup) but it's er going to be far more accurate still then the mechanical watches anyway.

Enjoy mate - the cost is pittance really in comparison to what reps cost these days. This G shock is easily a watch you could see lasting forever.

Agree on that.

With regards the signal, the last signal received was on the 8th of April, so not recent. Looking at the transmitters, I am unsure if I am actually too far away from any of them? I will put the watch on the window sill though tonight to see if it picks it up, need to remember to have the 12 o'clock position facing outside :)
