A Tale of Two Star Chronos...

Recommended Posts

LightGeek

This has always been my grail piece. The detail, AR, and general construction make it an exquisite piece. Bought the original at $300+ at the beginning of my rep journey. The gray one is a Tony Special. I spent all of 2 minutes trying to see if there were differences but other than the dial color and price, they are pretty much the same.

This may be one of those where I keep two of the same... Black/White Explorer II, Yellow/Blue Superocean Abyss 42mm, and now this.

Agreed, they do look nice. Better on the wrist too. Have you compared to gen to see how accurate they are?

They're pretty good. The biggest tell is the GMT dial. The reps are starburst coarse finished but the gen is smooth. Even so, there's so much going on in this watch that no one will "call you out"... Especially since they've likely never seen one in their life.

Cool, pretty close then, I wonder if the gen has a small mag/crystal in that deep date window?

Probably just a better date wheel. With less than 2000 pcs made, I don't think anyone here or you meet will ever know.

It's 42mm spec'd.

I love the detail in the dial and the cut out at 12. It looks great. I wonder if they still make this rep?

New versions? Probably not.

Still available? Yep.

There is so much detail it's astonishing. The bracelet is chiclet-like with each link brushed but also polished edges. This is probably the only rep bracelet (non-Rolex) that I didn't need to sand/round some sharp edges.

stupid question: How do you set the GMT disk?

Like most other GMTs... move to date setting on the stem and turn the other way.
