Not Quite Dead

Isn't it strange how a grail watch can turn out to be so much less. Got a PO 45.5 Chronograph and apart from it not being a pumpkin version it was everything else I wanted and I contemplated paying to have the dial changed and doing a bezel switch. Paid for the pushers to be fixed and the unit serviced but never bonded with it. Whilst I have never sold any of my watches this may be the first as it seems sad to keep it in the winder and not use it. Anyhow I noticed it had stopped even though it was being wound correctly for an A7750 and that I can shake it and it fires up but only lasts an hour at most. Winding by hand (I KNOW) is a bit crunchy so I whipped the back of and am I right in thinking

that the wire/spring pointing to 2:30 is not supposed to have free end?

Reasonabley good on the outside of watches but my knowledge on movements is limited and my hands are not good enough to mess with them so can I ask the gurus is thius a fixable issue or do I sell it for parts?

Apologies if there is a better forum for the query, Mods feel free to stick it wherever.

Thanks

The 2.30 spring is ok, it is the one that makes the minute counter to click after 1 turn of the chrono sec hand.

I can't see anything strange from that pic.

Thank you I assumed as the right hand end was not connected to anything it may be a problem. Maybe this is the watch I up my tinkering skills on as it is non functional as a watch and destroying it will leave me with a case and parts for the rest of the POs.

GenTLe would a rotor less picture help?

Crunchy hand winding and low power reserve could be missing teeth on the ratchet wheel. Turn the crown slowly to hand wind and observe the gear through 360 degrees. Missing teeth are easy to spot, but you will need a loupe.

PS: Google ratchet wheel A7750 and check the images. There first few show the problem part (if that is the problem).

I don't think so. The handwound of a 7750 is always a bit noisy. If you fell that the pressure on the crown while winding isn't constant than probably it is the ratchet wheel as rete wrote.

Do one thing: put it on in the morning, take it out in the evening (providing not to do the couch potato the whole

day...). Move around, do something...

When you go to bed take it out and check the morning later if it is still running or not. If it is running probably your is only a handwinding problem, otherwise it is a low power reserve problem and that requires in general a movement service to be fixed. Ah, and of course leave the chrono switched off and reset (the whole day and night).

Thanks to you all I have tried wearing it and have not used chronos since checking the pusher fix worked which must be 18 months or so. Will do the suggested tests.

Actually I have a nasty infection at the moment and am being more of a couch potato than normal but hopefully will recover and give it an active day of the wrist, waving it about outside the duvet.
