Shit happens :/

A couple of years ago I played the middle man to make a friend to get a GMT Master II from noob factory, using Torobravo as seller.

The watch was very good and no problem at all with it.

FFWD to now: my friend called me telling me that the watch is in need of a service because it was starting to loose time or stop etc, so I told him "ok mate, give it to me and I'll service it to you for a really friendly amount"

This eve I started to disassemble it and when I I took out from the case the movement, this happened:

The good thing is that this was completely unavoidable or unpredictable and not my fault. Still, when it's on a watch from someone else, it's not nice at all.

Ok, let's see if Toro will be able to get a new dial (paying him) for this one...

You never know what can happen working on these objects. I understand why so few accept to work on other people's watches!

Cheers, GenTLe

This was bought from Toro, and Toro came to the rescue. Already paid him for the new one :)

How does that happen? Did it get scratched against the glass?

Damn! Makes you realise also why lots of watchmakers won't knowingly work on reps.

Mat ei know that feeling, I was asked to do a job on a vintage Rolex rep, basically a relume and waterproof and to tighten the bezel ( a no click friction only fit) holy crap that watch came back to me 5 times, first time the bezel insert came adrift, then the actual bezel came off when it was dropped, then due to that and some dodgy tolerances the hand became misaligned then the second hand decided to part company with its post.

The watch wasn't bought from a TD here so build quality was questionable and trying to sort the bezel was a nightmare, touch wood it's all sorted now, but when it's not yours you can go get a flap on sometimes, enjoy mate as im sure you do.

(Yes, I know he is banned. Just thinking the reply could be interesting for others).

Probably the dial base plate was not perfectly clean when they sprayed the black glossy paint. The dial doesn't touch the glass (at all) but just a ring of metal which is the lower part of the rehault. Somehow the paint adhered more to that metal ring than to the dial base.

The movement removal was done normally: once the tabs have been taken out, the pillow (the one below the movement in the pics) was put on top of the complex movement+case and all was rotated 180° to have them "face up", and finally the case was lifted vertically leaving the movement on the pillow.
