Calling all style gurus.....

Recommended Posts

Hornet

I'd like to ask the style gurus out there on RWG about strap choices....

....I've just got my granddads Eterna retirement watch back from the watchsmith (fixed the broken winder with gen Eterna parts) and the next step is to put a new strap on it. It's 18mm width between the lugs and I'd like to go for something off the shelf (Panatime probably as I can't afford a handmade one at the moment.....) and something in between being traditional and in keeping with the watch and something a bit more modern.

Choices I've considered so far are:

Here are a few photos of the watch:

Any suggestions????

Thanks guys, but unfortunately I don't like Croc or lizard, so those are out....

......NATO just wouldn't go.

But looks like black and gold should be a good combination!

What about black with white stitches? Too modern?

Really? I really like contrasting stitches, but I think that you are right...

Simple, classy, understated.

That's how this would work....none without the other....

I'm convinced about forgetting the stitching, but black and gold? Would a brown or burgundy work better?

Ostrich prints actually look pretty good with the smaller vintage watches

No one has suggested rubber yet....?

Get this one. Darlena is a good brand. It has no grain, smooth and flat, and no stitches. Best of all, its slightly glazed, making it look that bit more classy, dressy, and flashy.

Edit plus its thin (2.5mm), perfect for a smaller watch.

Good point about the thickness as that was something I was thinking about and whether a more modern (thicker...) strap might look wrong....

.... the watch is tiny, especially next to my 45mm PO.

I said that to girls when I was 15, it didn't work then....

...which is exactly what you do not want on a dresswatch.

Mr Stubbs

Hornet, your grandad's Eterna is a beautiful watch. Glad you're taking care of it.

My suggestion is a fine lizard like the Hirsch brown Teju. It's less austere. Would need a silver buckle though.

If there's one thing RWG has taught me, it's that you can ALWAYS swap straps.

Good point Mr stubbs I could always change the strap if it doesn't look right....

....I'm looking after this watch as my grandad passed on before I was born, so it's a bit of a connection to him for me.
