A Calatrava quandry...

Recommended Posts

Davesjourney

Now then.

Am in love with the idea of owning a rep PP Calatrava - trouble is, I can't seem to find the one that I have a pic of:

Calatrava.jpg

Yes, yes - it's a horrible pic, but it looks like a 2526 but without the diamond inlays around the bezel.

In fact, it appears that unless you get the diamond bezel, you can't seem to get the markers to be square as per the pic

Can't seem to find one like it with the square markers on any of our TD sites. Anyone seen a rep like it with the square markers on a black face but not the diamonds encrusted bezel?

Cheers

Ah man, that does look nice. Personally I would prefer it without the diamonds, but it still looks fantastic.

As for the rep availability, I wouldnt be the best to answer this. But there are plenty of people here with a much better understanding of PP.

If DC logs on you will have a full in depth answer before you know it, haha.

Good luck

 But you can sell the other one at a profit on m2m, it will be ultra rare one of a kind modified :P

This appears to me like the Patek Philippe 5108g 18k White Gold Calatrava.. Only thing I know is that this particular watch only comes with the diamond bezel, and not having it, could be a tell.. I don't know where the picture you are showing is from, but it might be not the version that went for sale.. the 5108G comes with the diamond bezel and the baguette markers with a lovely 38mm case.

patek_philippe_ref_5108g_fine_white_gold_and_dia.jpg

Then again, I might be mistaken with the reference.. As there would be a straight tells like the word Swiss instead of the "Swiss Made" you have on your pic you uploaded.. but this is the closest to the pic that I can find...

The original image you have shared doesn't have the dots around the markers, it is not the same reference.. the one I have shared is the closest to the one you have shared.. just my two cents..

It's just that diamond bezel putting really me off. Much prefer the cleaner face of the 5108, but might just have to 'make do' with the one that Spike found.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to assist, though. Much appreciated.

The pic you posted in the original thread is of a rep, right? I mean it definitely is I'm just checking if everyone else is aware?!? It's hard to tell without seeing if there are crown guards but the closest gen Patek would be either the 5108 as per Godfathers post (if it has crown guards) or the 5297 (if it doesn't). Either way these only exist in diamond bezel versions so if it ain't got diamonds on the bezel as well as the dial then it ain't a gen (date window position among other things are what give this away as a rep).

If you just like the look of that specific watch regardless of the fact that it's not accurate then just send that picture to a trusted dealer and they will let you know if it's still available (it clearly was at one time as, like I said, the pic you posted is certainly a rep, it was made at one time so possibly still is)!

Good luck, looks like you may have found something to scratch the itch on trustys website (and I'm pretty sure I've seen it in rose gold so you should be in luck)!

Hi DC - thanks for the comments

Yes - pic was from a UK based rep site that I found before stumbling upon this lovely site (no longer around called www.inwatches.co.uk) and it's the only pic of a Calatrava I've ever seen like it. Slightly better pic below.

Will take your advice and send to a few of our TD's and see what they say

Cheers

I realize you speak in jest. :P

If it's consolation to OP, rare is the person that knows what a Calatrava is, outside this enclave of watch nuts and another smaller group on gen fora.

There are so many bling watches with crystals out there nowadays that the one or two that might compliment you will assume that and be referring to the appearance of your watch as a whole. Good luck in your quest.
