On Regulating

Recommended Posts

Leslie

Moving the regulator to make the movement run faster or slower always took me

too much time, because it is difficult to control/measure the amount that the regulator moves,

and I had to repeat back and forth many times, each time needs more than 2 hours

to observe the running speed (I have no machine for measuring the beats/oscillating).

Then, some day, I found the following nice method that works very well for me.

Please let me know what you think about it. (I am new here on the Forum)

I used scotch tape, folded it (see the first picture) so that one end (the left side of the picture)

has sticky part exposed, and I cut it into a long strip of about 0.3mm width.

Now, attach the end with the sticky part onto the regulator bar/arm/head/ring, with

the other end (color-marked) pointing to some location/index

such that when I move the regulator (by toothpick/matchstick),

I can easily see how much amount I had moved the regulator head.

Pics not visible.

And it is just a matter of steady hands. I would avoid anything sticky near an hairspring...

Thanks for the reply. I'll try other ways to post the pictures.

You are right that the point is to have the hand steady!
