My Bumblebee - Modded to my Own Personal Taste

Recommended Posts

jpohl402

First, this watch was completed nearly a year ago. But, I never posted a thread. Then I dropped it and broke some stuff inside, and was without the watch for 6 months... But that's another story!

I'll start this post off by saying that we all, in this hobby, have certain flaws/things we can, and things we cannot, live with - in our watches! One person's poison doesn't bother another person. And often we must pick and choose which things to fix or correct! It all comes down to personal preference and what is important to YOU!!

That said, I built (well, HAD built) to MY personal tastes, what I believe to be the best Bumblebee out there!! (Short of @legend 's beautiful franken Bee!)

Of course the DW placement bugs people (me too!) and the tachy shave is super nice - but those don't bother me as much, and my Bee hits on different levels of mods.... I'm very concerned about materials used, for instance

Nothing too crazy here but this works well for me.

Naturally it's a JF Bee, with JF Roo rubber strap for deployant. Bee on rubber rocks! I can't do the hornback strap.

Mods:

1. WHY oh why did they use stupid, incorrect Ceramic caseback? Should be DLC'd steel. For some odd reason, this was a major deal-breaker for me. Not sure why, but it got into my head, lol.... So we had to fix that. Ordered a caseback from a ProjectX Diver, which was the correct DLC'd steel. Scrap the ceramic one!!

Note: after ProjectX Diver caseback installed, the decorated AP rotor that came WITH the Bee did NOT fit and had to be changed to a thinner, older AP rotor, as well as the caseback gasket being changed for a thinner one!! This is due to the PJX caseback being THINNER than Roo caseback (as the Diver's are thinner.) Problem fixed though, mission accomplished!

Note: As I stated just above, the PJX caseback is thinner so YES, with this installed the overall watch case is thinner and therefore MORE Gen-like! Added benefit!

2. LUME color. Dial is the standard greenish color (C1/C3.) JF did a good job on dial lume. However, in the Gen Bee world, hands are NOT supposed to match!! The correct color for hands is BGW9 AQUA BLUE!! This creates a GORGEOUS contrast with the green of arabic numerals on dial. Problem fixed, check!!

3. Datewheel.... Hate the JF (new AP font) datewheels. Swapped in the ever-classic (and correct!) CREAM colored Noob Datewheel. Problem solved, check!!

4. Movement reliability. This is a big one for me guys! I don't switch out watches all that often (say, only wear a day then switch) and prefer/NEED them to keep fairly accurate time. Roos of the past have been all over the map with timekeeping, let's just say!!

So not only did I do a complete teardown & full service/lubrication/oiling, I added several key Swiss parts... I've seen a bunch of you do the Mainspring but never the other ones I added. The complete list, all ETA/Valjoux for 7750:

1. Mainspring

2. Reverser with Pinion

3. Oscillating Pinion

4. Stop Lever

5. Chrono Operating Control Lever

6. "Click"

Installed/mission accomplished!!

Special thanks go out to an absolute gentleman and true friend who helped me put all this together. Words cannot express my gratitude to him!! He's truly a magician!

Thanks for looking!! PHOTOS:

Thanks so much for the kind words!

No, the case was NOT polished actually - it's factory JF.

Cheers!!

Nics job mate, even if this is not a model I like much.

By the way I have a question for you: once one of my 7750 pieces had the reverser not working (which anyway got back in shape after a good bath with isopropyl alcohol in the ultrasonic cleaner and lubeta v105). Before to try the clean I ordered an eta gen reverser and... It did NOT fit! It is a matter of microns, because it somehow entered in the jewels, but the friction was so high that the rotor was completely stuck... How did you manage to fit it?

Hi friend!

I actually did not fit any of the parts, nor do any of the modding, myself...

It was all done by a skilled modder & friend. I don't have those talents, unfortunately.... Sorry I can't help more but I simply don't know!

Good luck and have fun!

That looks fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of the bee, but I really admire the work and effort that has gone in to this and it does look very nice :)

Nice read. Watch looks amazing and I like the fact you have a gsxr to match (or watch to match the bike) :)
