Recommended Posts

Hi i have a problem with my crown on my watch i can't tighten it into place.

It feels like it can't get an hold to the thread. And yes i push in the crown when i screw.

It's a rep. Is it a easy fix and or could i give it to a local watch smith or should i look up for an watch smith/modder in here.

I am located i Denmark.

Thanks.

Christian

Kenny won't replace it with a gen tube and crown as it's a PITA job and needs special tools... his words!

Get a long flat nose pliers that will fit in the gap between the crown and case. Squeeze the tube with this. See if that works... otherwise repeat but squeeze harder. Try and repeat until it catches. I had to squeeze mine outrageously hard.

Word of caution though, if the stem isn't in the tube (i.e. you have taken the movement out) do not squeeze hard at all!

Good luck.

Del

I did the gen tube and crown myself. It's not hard, you just have to epoxy the tube in with some JB weld.

Hmmm... I have heard it isn't that difficult... I recommend the OP tries the pinch trick first though... and if that fails and he has the right attitude, fit gen tube and crown.

Has everyone had this issue with the V5s?

Looks like I now have the same problem. I have had an Omega Planet Ocean now for three years and the screw will not seat down into the thread to tighten. The winding and date and time change stops still work. When I try to push down and screw it in, it just springs out.

I just wonder if that's a common issue in PO reps? what made is it OP? BP? Noob?

Hopefully you would find easy fix :S

I am not sure of the factory. It is a ceramic PO and I bought it from Watches International. I bought it in spring 2013.

I suspect the tube and crown need replacement and need to find them. The watch has the Swiss ETA movement.

Thank you.

Not Quite Dead

It is a common problem and used to come up more often but there will be lots of threads related. The pinch trick does work I am wearing a pinched one now that has been trouble free for 6 months plus through 28 and 30 day month changes and this was after one pinch with small good pliers. It did not take a large amount of force on mine so I suggest small initial pinch and build force gradually.

Since it has swiss ETA movement it should be from BP factory. Hopefully the pinch trick will work.

I tried pinching and saw a bit of a crimp in the tube but it did not catch and screw down. It really is tough to crimp though and I am worried about over doing it and making the watch useless. At least now I can wear it without a tightened crown.

I also have the same problem. Ordered a Gen Crown and Tube from Cousinsuk. Takes time to arrive because of german post on strike.

The tube has also to be glued in for a 42mm Noob LMPO?

I have three BP POs and they have all needed the pinch treatment. All are absolutely fine after it.

Take long nose pliers and gently pinch the outside of the tube which is sticking out of the case. It can be done without taking the stem out. Try pinching a little at first and if it's not enough, do some more.

I've never over-done it but if I did, I would pinch again at 90 degrees and I expect it would open back up a little.

It's worth lubricating the threads with a good quantity of watchmaker's silicone grease as this will help prevent more issues.

Also, always be sure to press the crown in gently and turn anticlockwise until you feel a click which is the start of the thread. Then screw it in clockwise. It's worth taking that extra two seconds to try and reduce the risk of cross-threading the screw.

Good luck with it. I'll see if I can take a picture of how I pinch it.

But the threads are inside the tube right? So the main problem is the Tube and not the Crown?

Not clear exactly where the threads are stripping. It could be either crown, tube or both. They obviously both have a thread. I never investigated because the pinching fixed it. That doesn't really mean it's the tube though, just that pinching closes the gap.

This is my experience with my budget Omega PO. Crown not screwing down and my amateur attempt to fix it myself. I have created some images to assist those of us for whom books without pictures never seem to quite sink in.

So this is my Budget PO - little to loose through 'having a go'. This isn't an expert guide and there may be better ways and there are certainly better people to attempt this. If your watch is of value - find an expert.

For my go at it - I removed the stem. So pictures of me doing that with a shot of my equipment.... Ooo er vicar. You obviously need a basic tool kit and for this job a pair of long nose pliers too. A magnifying lamp is essential for these eyes and a macro lens attachment for my iPhone allows me to take a pic and inspect the pieces at a level of detail that is really useful.

From close inspection on my stem/ crown and tube the thread in the tube looked fine where as the thread on the stem/ crown looked non existent. So I followed the best information both here and elsewhere and used my Gerber long nose pliers to squeeze the top end of the tube. Replaced the stem and crown and she's working ok. 'Screws' back down now. Although this is a work around as your really just catching one against the other and at best cutting a bit of new thread on whichever part was lacking the thread. In all honesty I expect this to happen again and accept I'll need to be extra careful when 'screwing' the crown down not to over tighten.
