Gen Tag Heuer Aquaracer Chrono long term review!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so here is my first review and pictorial. It's also a long term use review since I've had it and worn it a lot for ten years!

I got this watch as a gift from my in-laws when i got engaged, so I'm fairly certain its gen

some details:

gen Tag aquracer chrono

model: CAF2112

Dial: blue face

Movement: ETA Valjoux 7750 chrono automatic "Tag Heuer Calibre 16" Lol!

Bracelet: Aquaracer with polished center links

Clasp: safety deployment with diver extension

date window

screw down case back with a pretty cool diver engraving

sapphire crystal

The general review that I give of this watch is that it's a great piece that is comfy anywhere. It wears well with jeans or a suit and can be worn equally comfortably to a wedding or a day at the beach. It has been my every day watch.

Comfort: it can be a bit heavy at times, and i usually take it off when using a computer because it gets in the way of typing. Other than that, it fits the wrist well, it does sit a bit high and can be a pain with buttoned shirt sleeves. Not a problem for me since my sleeves are always rolled up.

Movement: the ETA Valjoux chrono is a tried and true work horse and never gave me any trouble. I was always careful to never set the date between 6pm and 2am. This is in the user manual and is standard in ETA Valjoux movements. The crown has a solid feel when setting the time, and it feels like quality. The rotor has become louder in the past few years, but the watch still keeps good time. It gains about a minute a month. The chrono is easy to work, the pushers have a nice solid feel to them and the chrono is fun to use. I actually use it at work sometimes to time little things.

Case: somewhat heavy and high sitting on the wrist, but overall comfy. The steel takes a good polish and is easy to touch up with a felt wheel and some jewelers rouge. I also re-did the brushed steel look of the links and case using some scotch brite. It came out fairly good.

Crystal: the sapphire crystal is great at repelling scratches. After ten years wearing the watch, still not one scratch on the crystal. I have banged this thing and abused it, so thats pretty good. There can be glare at some times, but nothing serious.

Hands: the hands have kept up their shine and are easy to read. They may be rhodium plated or something, and they have not become dull over the years.

Clasp: this has been a bit annoying. The buckle for the diver extension broke about eight years ago, I never had it fixed since it doesnt really matter, it just doesn't stay closed on its own unless the regular clap is closed over it. It still works as an extension, and it stays closed when the regular buckle is down, so its not a real issue, just more of an annoyance.

I would have liked a real forged buckle or something for this watch, but when it came out Rollies were still being sold with that flimsy old stamped clasp which I always thought was kind of cheapy looking.

So thats my writeup, let me know if you have any specific questions. I'm no watchmaker so I don't have detailed answers about the movement, but I have been wearing it for a long time now and it feels like an old friend!

And of course, some Pics!

Great watches those, Tags are real work horses, very reliable watches in my experience.

Also a great rep, not sure they even make them anymore, a true Hall of Fame rep.

Can you recommend a good dealer of Tag reps?
