First purchase then stuck for 10 days at Clearance Event with DHL

Recommended Posts

dons888

Hi everyone. Noob here, been lurking for awhile and finally pulled the trigger on May 24 and purchased my first RW from a TD. Took about a week from payment to shipping because of availability issues. Watch was finally shipped June 5, until....bam.... been stuck for 10 days at Clearance Event. Searched on this forum, and other forums about Clearance Event issues but mostly not good news. Anyone else care to share their experience with a clearance event? Thanks in advance.

Further Detail:

The shipment is pending completion of customs inspection.

Next Step:

The status will be updated following customs inspection.

A DHL representative shall attempt to contact the importer if additional requirements are necessary.

I just had this happen to me. They kept it for a month and I literally just got my watch yesterday. But more often then not you will get a seizure letter from customs. You need to contact your TD with the letter to see their terms and conditions/

You will have to give it to your TD to start a claim for his forwarder. Once that is done your TD will make it right. Just have to talk to them.

Not always. Every TD has his own rules and terms&conditions so that's not a default solution.

What in the world is going on? I just called DHL Customer Service at 866-600-0014. Gave them my tracking number, and the customer service agent told me, "it can take up to 30 days for these inspections. They are pulling a lot of shipments coming from China these days looking for counterfeits. As long as your item is not a counterfeit there shouldn't be any problem". I don't know if this is a general spiel they give by phone, but I have definitely lost any hope for recovery.

I had this in the UK with Parcelforce. They told me the very same thing after I was informed my package had been seized. Three days later it arrived with the Postie.

Be patient. This is a hobby that requires patience, UNTIL you receive a letter from customs. If you receive a letter from customs, kiss that watch goodbye and contact the TD. Do NOT respond to that letter. Depending on the TD, you should receive a replacement. Some TD's do not provide replacement services.

Be aware that the vast majority of shipments get through customs, therefore, exercise patience.

Sorry to hear that, it's a bit unlucky for a first purchase. I would recommend to wait it out until its officially 'seized' or released and negotiate with the TD. If they do officially seize the package, you'll most likely be receiving a couple pieces of mail... One from the customs department and another one from the law firm that represents the trademark of the watch company.

As was mentioned above, I would definitely wait it out. I had a 6 day delay in customs out of Cincinnati which kind of spooked me. I definitely thought that the watch was gone, but it ended up working out. I know your delay is longer, but hopefully it'll show up soon!

Last update was 3 days ago and still at Clearance Event. I don't know if I should still call DHL or just give up. Already running at 15 days stuck at Clearance Event.

And the TD - PC is of no help, all I get is "we shall check on our end".

I'd suggest you follow the advice given above-- everyone agrees that this is terrible luck for a first purchase, but harassing DHL is not going to help your cause, and DO NOT respond to a letter from Customs or a law firm representing a manufacturer in any way, even to say you don't know what they've talking about-- just pretend it doesn't exist. Any response by you is merely potential evidence of your attempt to procure counterfeit goods. Take your lumps and move on. Don't write off PC yet, they are a trusted dealer, and if worst comes to worst, involve the mods here to assist you with your claim.

Gone forever. After 8 days of no update....now the status says Please Contact DHL. What is my next step? Contact TD - PC and ask for a refund or a replacement?

OK, the TD just replied by email and suggested that I should call back DHL and tell them this package is a gift from a friend and I don't know the contents of the package.

Everyone here on the forums says don't ever call DHL, but the TD says to call DHL. I'm inclined to just call my credit card company and dispute the charges as undelivered item. Anybody else have a suggestion?

Don't lie to your Credit Card company that will make matters 'another level' worse. This is rotten bad luck and you need to realize that this was always a possibility. At the end of the day we may refer to the watches as replicas but to the brand owner it's a fake and illegal. Customs is designed to stop fakes!

The constant calling of DHL may or may not have gone against you. I would be inclined to say you need to write this watch off and wait for the customs letter. Tell the TD it's been held and see what can be done with them.

I am sure you can work with the TD too but if needs be the mods here have a phenomenal reputation at being super helpful. Just remember to keep everything civil. This was always a risk you were taking.

That was my point. I tried to work things out with the TD, but what he is suggesting is exactly what other members are advising against ---- everyone says do not call DHL. And if I should contact DHL again-- I could put myself in jeopardy because I will definitely be asked for additional information. Calling my credit card company can be my last recourse if I don't get it resolved with the TD. But----- telling my credit card company that I never received the item is not lying----- I literally did not receive the item that I purchased.

Since you have a back-up from the TD , then no harm to check with DHL what they want...just give a try and see.

P.S: never ever use DHL...DHL with genuine Watches can sometimes screw things .

Good Luck and hope you get the watch soon

Regards

Do not call your CC company or even think about a chargeback, sure fire way to get banned from all the rep forums, if need be contact a mod, it's what they're for and they are very successful in helping members and dealers resolve issues. Calling the CC company isn't even an option imo

I called DHL, more than once, in these situations (and yes, importing counterfeit goods is a crime here too, with jail and high penalties).

By now I always managed to get my goods with a bit of fantasy and sometimes some fee to pay.

Once it was a Rolex coming from Australia (M2M purchase) and I told them it was broken and a favour I was doing to a friend as I had to fix it. I don't suggest this approach as implicitly you admit that's a watch... But telling, for instance, that this is a present from a Chinese guy you hosted during a trip he did in your country, and that he told you about that only when he saw the package stuck with tracking, and that you completely are unaware of what it contains, should keep you on the safe side. You can then play dumb and if they tell you it's a fake watch just say "Oohhh, I didn't know!! Destroy it then!".

Maybe it is just a matter of fees... It would be a sin not to even try.

But, as from the other replies, each his own way to deal with this.

OP Ive no monkey in this circus

But

FGS listen to the above advice

Credit Card chargebacks DO NOT INDEMNIFY YOU AGAINST CUSTOMS PROCESSES as your card issuer will very soon point out to you.

Ring /don't ring DHL its up to you - it may be as simple as a damaged packet/ loss/ whatever, but there again all points to a sniff of custom's interest (But in fairness to you, you seem without the level of guile necessary to self protect in such an exchange).

The cornerstone in this situation is the Notice of Seizure as already explained

Wait for it to appear

Then show the TD this and seek resolution. With the cast iron fall-back of the moderation team here as 'arbitration' in the unlikely event that you reach an impasse.

All that said the ubiquitous 'chill pill' is the very prescription in these situations ;)

Nope, because I didn't call DH, and eventually got a bill for about £30 for VAT and their services. I paid that and the watch turned up. Chargeback will lead you down all sorts of difficult paths, including the post you were so sarcastic about. You either commit fraud by lying to your CC company about the goods you bought or you admit to using the card to import counterfeit goods which were seized by customs. Neither will endear you to your CC company.

Cool about your opinion on chargebacks. It is not that it is better to ask all pertinent questions, whether you like it or not. After all, that is what forums are for...right? To ask all pertinent questions. And I expected intelligent answers in return.

I did what every other member told me....

to WAIT...

DO NOT CONTACT DHL

CONTACT THE TD ONCE YOU HAVE HEARD FROM DHL

I then spoke to the TD and he told me to do what every member advised me not to do.... CONTACT DHL.
