New Noob v7 Submariner keeps stopping

Recommended Posts

Robert11

Just received my new noob v7 submariner with the A2836 and I noticed it stopped after a couple of hours last night when it was sitting down. Thought this was a little stranger as I gave it at least 30 turns of winding and wore it for a few minutes. Today I gave it another 15 or so winds put it on and notice after a couple of hours later it was about 10 minutes slow. Suspected that maybe it stopped and started because when running it's keeping good time. Reset it, put it on, and about 15 minutes later when I looked up at it I noticed the second hand was not moving. Gave it a couple of taps and it restarted. Will this work itself out? Does it just need a little time to break in? Any other suggestions?

No bro there's an issue. If you can get the back off have a quick look make sure there's no screws worked loose and planted in the balance wheel. Failing that back to TD I think.

Thats is a dying movement, it will die in a short time. I hope you have a TD to contact, send it back to CN for repair.

As others have said it's a failing movement and I'd have it checked out. If you didn't just get it I'd swap in a Swiss 2836. Heck I'd think about it anywayn but that's me.

Either way good luck on getting it sorted!

Been running now for the last 2 hours or so. if it keeps stopping I'll open it to look for anything obvious but I don't here anything rattling around in there.

No way I will send it back to the TD for repair. Heard way too many horror stories about that and the cost and time is not worth it alone. TD is really a misnomer. They all have what they call "quality control" depts which do nothing to ensure basic function. Will most likely look for someone local in the U.S. that can service it.

Several TDs offer free repair and cover the cost of return shopping. You need to cover shipping one way. Takes about 4-6 weeks. I have done it twice myself. If you can find a REP friendly in the US go for it. The movement parts is easy to come by for someone in the know,

I urge you to have it serviced asap, rather a DOA. Good luck.

yep, stopped again. I notice whenever it stops the second hand is always at the 57 second mark. Not sure if that means anything.

Sounds about par for most reps.

Bollocks. I've bought nearly 50 over the years and currently have 35. Never had a problem like that. Contact your dealer for assistance or take it to a repairer.

Try winding it again, as I'm wondering if you are charging it enough. You said 30 winds and wore for a few minutes? If you don't wind it enough and then either don't wear it or don't move your arm enough, it will not wind sufficiently to stay charged.

The A2836 is not good. That is the bottom line. Every one I had got came with reserve issues or autowind issues. I would contact the TD that you got it from and send it back to them. I would pay the difference if they had real eta's or find a watch smith here that can change it out for a real ETA. They are a little under $200 of Startime. Good luck.

Congrats, you own more reps and have had better luck with them. I've owned various reps over the past 20 years, everything from a $20 badly made DJ automatic from a street vendor in Mexico, to a high dollar version gifted from me, but bought from one of the TD's here. The most accurate and reliable one I owned was in high school, a quartz Submariner of all things. The rest have been absolute garbage at doing their most basic job, keeping accurate time. I did make an effort to have the 'nice' rep repaired when it started faltering, only to be told nothing was wrong with it.

30 rounds manual wound can last more than 24 hours even you put it on desk.

i don't think so. A2836 movement is most used in the rep watch in the past. usually it is relaible. but once in a while it won't. it depend the qc before shipping.

I think I have to disagree with this one, I have had a dozen watches with A2836 / 2824 and have had no issues except a noisy rotor on one of them and one of then has been my daily work watch for over three years.

While a gen ETA is ideal and I have been in the process of converting my collection, the A2836 is usually a pretty good movement. Where are you located? If you cannot find a rep friendly watchsmith locally, we can probably point you towards a forum recommended one. I primarily am on RWI, and I have dealt with several wonderful watchsmiths. Who knows, perhaps it's something simple like a malformed hairspring. Personally, I'm of the opinion that if the watch is a keeper, since you are spending money on it anyway, might as well spend the few extra dollars and drop a gen ETA in. It is not as if it's a decorated movement, as the back is closed. That should give you years, if not decades of reliable service. Just my humble opinion. While you are investing in the watch, I'd suggest you upgrade the crystal to a gen crystal since it will be out for repairs anyway. That is probably the only significant tell on the wrist as the cyclops on the gen has a beautiful double AR providing the "black hole" effect that no rep has copied successfully to date.

Firstly, give this watch a really good wind. 50 at leasr. Listen to hear if the hairspring is slipping. Whirring sound which would mean its discharging the power.

I would be looking for hair or dirt in the movement. Give it a bit of a blow with the appropriate tools.

I have sent back several watches, have gotten them back safely. It just takes a long time to get them back.....average about 10-12 weeks

....and have to agree with Mary about the reliability of the movement and disagree that this issue is "par" for the A2836 movement.

Even here in the US, the fastest turn around time I've personally seen is about 3 weeks I'd contact Kat, or Strodda (he's on RWI but I've used him a few times). Both are CONUS based.

Slap the watch head firmly several times with one hand into the palm of your other hand. This can free some foreign object sticking somewhere. I read about this method here, and it worked for me with a ST-19 movement. However, it did not work when I had the same problem later again with another movement.

I have been sending several watches back to China for repair. Follow the instructions on the TD website. It works. Takes about two months.

i have the same problem. second hand gets stuck around the 45 - 55 minute mark. power reserve less than 7 hours when its on standby time at night. suddenly stops in the middle of the day even when im wearing it.

had a local watchsmith take a look at it and they suggest for a cleaning of the movement. everything is ok now. sometimes its stop but not as frequent as before. dont really want to send it back to TD since i might lose it to customs on the way back or it might take a really long time to get it.

You'd be very lucky to find any TD who would accept responsibility for a fault after the watch has been worked on.

Mine was stopping too. I found two wheels with broken teeth. I replaced the movement. Problem was solved. Send it my way if in USA. I will put new movement in for you if you cannot find a watchmaker.

Here's a follow up. Because the watch was always stopping with second hand in roughly the same point, the suspicion was that the second hand was coming in contact with the Crystal. Sent it off to Strodda who confirmed after working on it that the hands were slightly angled upward. After adjusting, it worked perfect. While he had it also had it regulated and waterproofed all for a reasonable cost. Glad to finally have it back and running well.
