JerAnt 0 Posted January 2, 2016 OK gents, so here it is - the SF many of you love to hate! However, I've seen more and more pics of the V's showing up in various threads over the last couple of weeks, so there must be some love for them. The basic specs for my black V3/01 are as follows: Model : Seven Friday V3/01 Black PVD on 316L stainless Dimensions : 44mm top to bottom x 50mm side to side (minus the crown), 11.5mm thick Movement : Miyota 82S7 Automatic movement (21,600 bph) Crystal : Mineral Having an M-series, a P-series and now a V-series, I can tell you the V's seem to be just as well made as their siblings. Like all SF's, the design may not appeal to everyone, but they always look MUCH better in person than in pictures and my V3/01 is no exception. I can't believe how gorgeous this thing is in the hand and on the wrist, and when viewed side by side with the M and P, it doesn't even look that radical. As many people commented when these were first announced, telling time is indeed going to be a little different than with most watches. After wearing the V3 for less than a day though, I found telling the time at a glance became completely natural and required no differential equations to be solved. In fact, for the most part, I don't even look at the minute hand very often now, but instead simply use the "additioner" hour dial to easily come within 5 minutes of the correct time. On to the pictures, starting with the somewhat busy - yet somehow elegant - view of the watch face and crown. Next, the familiar story book on the case back. As for the strap, it's not the finest leather I've ever had, but it becomes soft and comfortable enough after a few days breaking it in. Side profile where you can see the housings for the often talked about "fast strap change" system push buttons. Here's another view showing one of the spring loaded strap change buttons - simply poke it with whatever is handy, lift gently, and the strap will pop right off. Definitely cool, but also a bit of a gimmick IMO. How often are you really going to change the strap, and even when you do, spring bars just aren't that complicated ... Anyway, the same system is in place for the buckle too (with the pusher button coated in black so it blends in better - nice touch!). Now, the 3 Amigos. When viewed together, I think the key SF design elements are consistent, with the V-series being a simple evolution rather than a revolution. I'm a big fan of the square M and P design, and so I wasn't sure how the more circular face of the V would feel to me ... but it's all good! Finally, a quick overview of telling the time. Really, it's not hard and soon becomes something you don't notice consciously doing at all. I show 15 minute increments in the small images to the right, and it's primarily that view of the hour dial I use when glancing at the time - the minute hand becomes almost a distraction. Unless you really need to know the time down to the minute, using the hour dial alone with the 15 minute increments as reference will easily get you within 5 minutes of the correct time. AM and PM become night and day instead, with "day" being indicated as blue and "night being indicated as black on the dial (with the transition from one to the other phasing in roughly between 6 to 7 am / pm. The following picture shows the 4 main phases where day = all blue, turning to night = blue leading black, night = all black, and night turning to day = black leading blue. (Disclaimer : I'm a shitty photographer and I couldn't keep the colours balanced well, but that is what the picture is attempting to show.)
