NCRich 13,714 Posted April 7, 2017 It seems I've a gaggle of DRSD (3 is a gaggle). I did a thread on aging the dials so this one will be about the watches. I did some aging on the dials, sacrificing one in the name of science (sorry Fatarms ). So the first two are to be tropical dials. The dials: I'm only using the bottom two, they were heated in the oven carefully, then coated with 2-3 coats of matte lacquer for some depth. For reference here is the original dial. The markers aren't really as white as they look. Slightly yellowed. So this case was drilled, I cut some slight chamfers, took 1-2mm off the crown guard and thinned them front to back. I countersunk and installed an Athaya 702 crown. Had to clean up the threads a bit with a tap. I faded the insert, and relumed the hands to match the dial. I used the superdome it came with since there really isn't a good economical T39 domed plexi. So off to the pics, this uses the dial on the lower left side. Finally a wristie. Next up, after I get more crowns will be the dial on right in this pic.
atgm 0 Posted April 7, 2017 Looking great, Rich! I definitely think that well-done dial could be salvageable and outstanding in the proper context, though definitely a bit more beat up than you usually do. You've been having a lot of luck with the bezel insert aging lately. :)
