SOLD - Sierra - Mammoth Ivory & Macassar Ebony (148)

Recommended Posts

graman

This was on hold, but deal has fell through....With that in mind, I've thought..."bugger it"...I'm going to discount.

I don't do this often, and it's likely to be the only time you see Mammoth discounted as it costs the earth in materials and hours.

I don't like doing this, but I need to buy more materials...so here goes.

This one isn't pristine...it has a large crack through it, which I personally prefer...it gives it character.

Comes in a velvet lined box.

$350aud plus $45audshipping detailed below.

Buy this, before I change my mind!

I don't do these regularly, as those of us who have been around a while would know.

This was the second of a commissioned pen that a member decided not to purchase.

No biggie...again...it just goes into the shop.

There's also quite a wait when ordered....I'm a bit of a bastard like that ;)

So..a Sierra.

Mammoth Ivory and macassar ebony to protect the twist section.

The Mammoth Ivory comes from the US, so would be Alaskan or Canadian.

No certificates, however I check the end grain for the right pattern (mammoth is different from elephant) and it is definitely Mammoth, therefore between 10,000 and 40,000 years old.

I've done a CA coat to preserve it, so it should be fine to most elements that are not extreme.

Not, under any circumstances, to be left in the glovebox of your car.

Hardware is platinum & black titanium...Premium over the normal Sierra fare, and is much brighter in appearance.

Price - $400aud plus shipping. Comes with a velvet lined box. Shipping is usually international express courier, at a minimum of $45, but I'll see if I can do pack and track.

This doesn't leave my house without a tracking number.

I've had my eye on this pen since it was posted.

Shame I have to wait until October to purchase one, but you better believe that this will be in the pocket of my scrubs VERY SOON!!

Not Quite Dead

It is like someone took all the words that make a male smile and say that's right - mammoth, titanium, platinum and then finish with a song ebony and ivory. Ah this is such a nice looking pen and you know it will write better than you can. Ah bump for a serious artist.

Great use of material! Pen, didn't think of that.

Personally I love the natural blue mammoth ivory. Here's a couple of pieces I picked up recently:

Nice!!! Where did you find blue!!??

I'm used to the creamy siberian material, which becomes more caramel coloured as you go south...

The blue is lovely! Would love to see what it looks like when finished into an object....

If I have any spare bucks he would be replacing the ebony with a piece of walnut burl and it would be mine . . . MINE I tells you!

Incredible piece of artwork, truly stunning. I wish my father was still alive, I would have bought this for him without giving it a second thought. It is just the kind of gift he really have really appreciated. Somnehone should buy this for their dad, if not for themselves.
