shadytrade 0 Posted June 22, 2017 (edited) Hey all, I have two replica subs in need of repairs. The first one was the first replica I purchased which was damaged after I banged it pretty bad in the UAE and messed up the movement, which needs replacing. Any idea what I can replace it with? The second one lost its pearl after I banged it on some traffic lights here in England. Any idea where the best place is to get a replacement? Can I replace the entire band with a real one? Another question: Is it possible to replace the face with a real one? I love the vintage look and things like the pepsi band etc. Edited June 22, 2017 by shadytrade

Foxindebox 462 Posted June 22, 2017 Out of interest, does the movement without the rotor run on a hand wind?
Diver Dave 0 Posted June 22, 2017 (edited) 1: Changing the movement is no sweat. EBay is full of suitable ones. 2: The loss of the pearl makes the watch look real. In 38 years of wearing a gen, I never managed to keep a pearl longer than about 2 months before it fucked-off, and then I did without until the next time I changed the insert (about every 10 years as they get scratched to shit if you actually work with your hands while wearing a watch., Inserts are worth about $20 and take nothing to change though. In the olden-days they were considered a routine service item. Personally I'd leave it alone as it makes it look genuine. 3: Yes you can find genuine dials, starting at about $1000. There are a ton of nice rep dials out there though, and "vintagizing" one isn't terribly hard to do. 4: On the non-running one, remove the screw at the center of the rotor, remove the rotor, hand wind it about 60 times, ans see if it runs. While you're there take a look at the balance and see if it's OK or if the hairspring is buggered. And... fuck off I guess. The Mods have banned ya... they don't hand that out for free.
