If Rolex Made the DSSD in Bronze

Recommended Posts

RepGuy

Thanks to Ancon Watches, I now know what a bronze DSSD would look like. I saw this a while ago, and it resurfaced more recently, prompting the purchase. Although it just arrived, I can tell this is going to be a regular in my rotation, and it is the first watch (gen or rep) that I have purchased with a new ETA inside, so I am excited to see how this does compared to the box full of Miyota 9015's with accuracy. While this is basically a straight replication of the Rolex DSSD, the design looks good in bronze, and it seems to "fit" the style. The specifications are as follows:

- Hours, minutes, seconds and quick set date at 3 o'clock position.

- CuSn8 Bronze case, brushed finishing, 43.5mm diameter excluding crown, 52mm from lug to lug, 16.5mm thick, 21mm Lug, steel with see-through (sapphire crystal) case back.

- Swiss made ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, 25 jewels, power reserve 38 hours up, 28,800 vibrations per hour.

- Green with Super Luminova luminous hour markers.

- CuSn8 Bronze screw-down crown, 8mm diameter, Water-resistance to 500 meters (1650 feet).

- 43mm CuSn8 Bronze uni-directional rotating bezel with Green ceramic insert, 120 clicks, engraved with elapsed time markings, 4mm flat Sapphire Crystal.

- Rubber strap with CuSn8 Bronze buckle.

- 130 grams excluding strap.

I agree that the strap isn't the best looking, but it definitely feels well made. For the time being, I'll leave it as-is until I can get another strap from JohnG in the future.

Price?

I paid around $950 shipped. But they also have SS and PVD models with a Miyota 9015 in the $600 range.

I will be honest,I don't like the DSSD I think it's big, unbalanced and ugly, and I would liked to say nice things about this but I can't.

But that is my opinion, and you seem very happy with it and I'm sure outside of my bubble of easy wearers there will be plenty of fans

Sounds reasonable

I like this better than the DSSD

I can understand your stance on it. I'm personally a fan of chunky divers, and I loved my DSSD reps of the past, so when this came up again it was a no brainer for me. If you look at my current watchbox, this style is basically all I wear, so it's a good addition to the collection

Left to Right:

And in Sea Shadow III, Helson Shark Diver, Boschett Harpoon, Zelos Hammerhead, Prometheus Sailfish, Deep Blue Daynight, SO Schumacher, Hulbot 4000, SO 15400, Rolex, Rolex Submarines (my first ever rep. Saved for memories sake only)

Anorexic and forgotten for the most part. But everybody needs at least one "official" dress watch

Calling the 15400 anorexic is like calling the A380 a light aircraft...

Thank you, I purchased it new direct from Ancon (http://www.anconwatches.com). They also offer this model in different colors, as well as a bunch of SS and PVD models with Miyota movements for a lower price... one of which is a pretty nice homage to the actual DSSD colorway as shown below

They also make an oversized Rolex 5508 style NOCG sub with and without numerals.... But at 43.5mm it's a little large for me.

Mr Stubbs

I like this a LOT.  The colours and materials make this more visually interesting to me than the DSSD.

Loving your collection as well!
