3646 cali

ELKING

Hello everybody

I have the intenction to build a 3646 with california dial. I've asked to nightwatch if the silix case is enogh good and he answered that this case doesn't need a re-shape: it is correct?

For the bezel and the plexi I think that the original Silix ones are good: do you aggre? For the case back I think that the Silix is good for the first time but after that I have the intection to use a more accurate one.

So for the dial where I can find a very accurate one (with the swiss made text of course )?

Last but non least the movement: I'm going to use a molnija 3602 with Nightwatch brass ring...

Thank you

Marco

P.S. For solder the lug how can I do?

Hi Elking!

Welcome to the board :P

The Cali is a great watch, I am currently collecting parts to make one myself!

The 3646 case from Silix is a great shape, NW is correct in saying it does not really need any re-shaping - some people do change it to soften the edges a little bit but it looks good as it comes from Silix

However, for a 100% accurate California case you would have to buy a NW case - he modifies the case and adds a lower bezel than the Silix bezel. The Silix plexi is okay but you can buy other plexis that have a flatter profile. You have a choice of sizes as you can try to re-use the silix plexi gasket or you could remove it and glue the plexi in place

You have a number of caseback options! You can stick with the Silix display caseback, or you can get a solid caseback or a thicker display caseback from either NW or Athaya on HomageForum.

Dials are quite limited - DSN has a good dial but it is quite expensive at $80... It also needs to be re-lumed to achieve the deep 'snowflake' lume effect. Or you could ask Athaya and say I sent you... ;):)

Does the Molnija have a high cannon pinion? You might need it!

For solder, you will need some Harris Stay-clean flux and some Harris Stay-Brite 8. There is a guide on HomageForum

I think you should pay a visit to HomageForum.com - plenty of people on there are doing similar builds and can help! :) A lot of them are on this forum too but there is more easily available information on there :)

ok

thank you very muche for the answers!

I already know homage forum :D

Only a question what is it a high canon pinion? And the snowflake effect?

For the caseback the one i like is without the plexi and free from text (not like the silix one) with machined interior and rolex oyster text , but of course this is a deletable add-on :D

Thank you

Marco

A Cannon Pinion is what the hands are held on :P

This thread shows you how to change a standard CP for an H3 (or another) CP:

http://www.homageforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=5685

and it also has a pic showing you the difference between the standard and H3 :)

Or... These are custom super-high versions! :)

Snowflake lume is like this - deep and looking like piled up 'powder' :D

It is hard to do and you would have to get a standard dial re-lumed to get that effect! (Or learn and do it yourself! :))
