Tic off #1

No I am not ticked off :giggle: . I had too much time on my hands tonight so I thought I would do this quick little visual comparison. This is a comparison of the second hand "tic" between a Marinmaster 300 SDBX017 and a homage of the Seiko Marinmaster SBBN015 Tuna. The MM300 runs a cal 8L35 automatic and the Sharkey homage is running a Seiko NH35 automatic.

The Seiko is a lot smoother.......

And yes, you have too much time on your hands :)

21,600 versus 28,800....

So the takeaway is that the more expensive one will wear out faster....

Nice video.

Nice video.

...or that I paid way too much money for a watch that does "almost" the same thing as the $150 watch.

Yah... Maybe. it's certainly a nice watch, Unsure how much nicer than a SKX007 but still... nice.

It's funny: I work on Seiko's almost every day, and have come to really appreciate the "bang for buck" that they represent. The truth is that they do the same job as a Rolex for 1/10th the price. I love them for what they are (being a gen Rolex guy myself). And I remember in the 70's when I was working as a commercial diver that the "good watch" was the Submariner, the "fair watch" was a Doxa, and the "cheap but functional watch" was the Seiko. Nobody aspired to own a Seiko and the divers who had them replaced with with a Rolex as soon as they got home from their first good diving job and got the first good check.

So.... how do i put this: Seiko is an *excellent* watch "for the price" but I can never recognize it as a luxury brand.

What I simply can't get is anyone spending more for a Seiko than about $200. and *certainly* don't "get" the Grand Seiko and it's derivations (like the movement you show). Why? They don't function any better than the basic movements (which is a huge compliment to the basic movements, not a criticism of the nicer ones) and they will always be a Seiko. At that price point I'm always gonna go Swiss and at the GS price point it'll be a Rolex. I'd be damned if I would spend $10K and have "Seiko" staring at me from my watch....

In any event, thanks for the work. It sure is a nice comparison.
