is this watch any good?

lots of hommage out there, too many, really.

how does it compare to a Steinhart and other wannabe Subs?

I can't personally speak on the quality, but during research into this and other micro brands, the general consensus was that these are fairly well built. Is this model a Miyota or an ETA?

i agree...but the truth of the matter is the genuine watches with the panache you mention are pricey enough to be out of reach of many WIS....

Maybe there's an opportunity somewhere here for a developing industrial nation to make affordable replicas of the proper ones to sate this need

just a thought

I just had an email from a Nigerian Prince with a large sum of cash to invest. I think he'll be interested in this venture.

question already debated more than once...

we, the rep geeks of this hobby, do we share the same burden of deciding what is better? Wearing a replica of an outrageously expensive gen or a genuine affordable that is well built ?

but then, upon looking more attentively at the photo I posted, is it my deteriorating eyes or do I notice the marker at 3 is ever so slightly crooked?

Well the simple and harsh answer is in the forum's title

I don't think it works.. it's a vintage design updated with a flashy ceramic bezel with a shrunken lume pip.

Tbh I would rather wear a rep over something like this. From what I've found, homages may be well built but still have their flaws.

A high end rep is probably up there with the quality of this watch, apart from the water resistance. Even if you're a diver wouldn't you rather a bombproof Seiko skx on your wrist rather than a borealis? Who's going down 2000m!

;)

Borealis/Prometheus usually do a good stuff. If there are flaws, ppl identify them quite promptly.

I haven't heard about any flaws in Bullshark.

$375 for green model does not sound like a bargain. Ppl keep black models, while green and blue are flipped a lot.

Sometimes it's nice to have a proper warranty and water resistance that comes with these brands. I still love the reps I have, but it is annoying to always be on the lookout for water splashes and getting the reps wet for fear that they become damaged. I know not all members are as cautious, and some even waterproof their reps themselves, but it's nice to have that out of the box With a gen or micro brand.

Your reasoning about these micros having no heritage is a good point, but I'm not necessarily interested in a long and noble heritage with my watches. I like the idea of wearing a well built watch made by either a small company, or even a single person. For example, UTS watches are relatively unknown and have no "real" history, but they are created entirely by hand by a single man in Germany, and then fitted with Swiss ETA's. They produce about 200 watches a year, versus Rolex, who produces about 1 million per year. Things like this are what I look for, as they add to the exclusivity of owning a watch. Depending on where I am, there may be many others wearing a Rolex, but probably nobody else wearing, or even knowing about, a brand like UTS*.

There are many factors I look for when buying a watch (movement, water resistance, price, ect.), but the brand's history is not always one of those things. As long as the watch is well made and fits my needs, I am happy.

*I do not own a UTS, this was just an example.

All well and good

& I appreciate that the Poor Mans Watch Forum is defunct

but why has a REPLICA forum become the point of pontification for 'no name' cheapo watches?

If you look at the vast majority of topics, you'll see that rep discussions are still almost entirely what is being posted about. The forum does have a Gen section for reviews and discussion though, which I believe to be a good thing. Hell, we even have a Genuine Weekly Wrist Check Thread!

Many members appear to start out going "all in" on reps and amassing a large collection before tapering off into more quality reps. Other members get to the point of having a mix of reps and gens in their collection, which seems to be that way with many people here. As a forum member, I'm glad to be able to discuss both reps and gens in one place, as it allows me to keep to mostly one forum instead of bouncing around both strictly gen and strictly rep forums.

I'm with the group. For not much more, get a steinhart with the ETA movement. They hold their value, look good and no stuttering second hand. Just my 2cents

100%. 9015 is identical to any high beat eta or asian clone in terms of performance. Bullet proof.
