Help 4205 seiko stem replace

Recommended Posts

Sealdoggy

Anyone have any suggestions on how to replace a broken stem, watch works good however I acquired it with a broken stem

I purchased the replacement stem on e bay, have watched videos on you tube on how to fit a stem, is this something a mechanically inclined Noob Can do or should I seek out a watch repair.

Not quite sure how to remove the broken part of the stem, fitting the stem may not be a problem for me.

Show some pics?

I work on Seiko daily, and this should be easy to do for you.

I don't know how the 4205 is done. The major problem to me for replacing the stem on a SKX009 (because I swapped the movement inside to a different one) was that the original stem was press-fitted in the crown, like this

while the new one was a threaded stem, like this:

So I had to purchase an aftermarket crown (like the one in the last picture) to install it.

I purchased a new original crown and stem from a watchmaker in the Phillipines, ordered it 3 weeks ago still waiting.

The original stem is screwed into the crown not pressed, it broke off right at the crown.

I opened the back of the watch it's in pristine like new condition, that was exciting to see it gives me a warm fuzzy that this watch will run again like new.

Mate you might be lucky and be able to press the stem release button and pull the remaining part of the stem out of the movemen, if its snapped right at the crown then it will have a couple of mm still proud of the movement.you will probably have to take the movemnet out of the case to do this ok.

Maybe you can ship to ttw? They repair most reps, why not shoot them an email?

Got the watch repaired, one of our members Diver Dave took care of it for me, he calibrated it and pressure tested, it passed at 5 bar.

This pristine little all original Seiko is super nice on my wife's wrist, it will be great for resort diving.
