NCRich 13,744 Posted December 3, 2016 I'd been talking with GC about some vintage watches and he ended up doing me a favor and I ended up selling him my first attempt at a 6538 using a 2813. It was ok but no real refinements, just a new dial/hands/bezel fading. Here it was. He and I were admiring these real gilt dials next door produced by Bart Cordell in France. Beautiful things. GC acquired one and asked if I could install it on his 6538. I said it would need a new movement and hands to fit and he offered the dial to me since it was so much trouble. I told him I could do it and had some spare low beat swiss movements in the box. So he ordered the hands. I couldn't stop at just a new movement so..........reshaped the case, brassed the bezel, new crown, tropic 21 plexi, drilled the lugs, new bars, modify the bracelet. We ended up with this. Nice gen Swiss 2879 low beat. Ready to assemble. Frickin' beautiful dial. Beautiful little thing in the sunshine. And done Hate to put this one in the mail. Even my wife commented on how pretty this was. Enjoy GC.

GC 4,461 Posted December 3, 2016 Ok, so I keep looking at the photos and am amazed at the details. Chamfers, am I seeing that right? Brass exposed bezel teeth, and the lowered plexi. Really Rich, you have out done your previous builds. Ironically with your first build, the second time around. No lie, to match a Bart Cordell gilt dial, you really mastered it. I kinda don't know what to say or how to say it perfectly, so I'll just say namaste and thank you.

NCRich 13,744 Posted December 5, 2016 Couldn't stand the bezel insert. Had to change it.

Mbari 2,227 Posted July 24, 2020 How does one brass the bezel? I am about to build a 2894, would certainly appreciate the guidance on brassing. Thanks in advance. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
