My collection is complete...

Recommended Posts

Dommysam

So the new Steinhart chronograph arrived on Saturday and after swapping it onto a vintage leather strap I can say for the first time in many years that my collection is now complete!

I've got 19 watches now, most are gens that I've put away because they hold sentimental value but I don't particularly like visually and haven't worn in years. The core collection stands at 9 and these are the ones I regularly rotate through. I can't think of anything else I would want to be honest! I miss the Superocean 44 I sold recently but not enough to buy it again. I'm not into APs and IWC has never really grabbed me. Let me know what you think!

I'll let the pics do the talking...

Nice collection and nice photos. The Steinhart paul newman alike must be just in. What do you think of it?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Nice collection and nice photos. The Steinhart paul newman alike must be just in. What do you think of it?

The Steinhart chrono is very nice, I really like it... dare I say it, it's not love at first site which is a bit of a shame €1k later! I will do a proper review later today but in short; the overall appearance is very nice, it certainly feels like a quality watch too. It's like any of the Steinhart vintage homages, they are a fair bit bigger and heavier than the original, I guess it is a sensible move, tastes have changed over the last 50 years for bigger watches so when doing an homage, follow the trend and make them bigger. That said, the thickness of this watch is pretty obscene... it's Breitling Avenger big and on the bracelet I just hated it. Likewise, the end link design and flow into the bracelet wasn't very appealing, I can't really put my finger on why. On a vintage leather strap though it all makes sense! The height of the watch on the wrist visually reduces on the leather strap too which is a bonus.

All in all, you've got the best quality of any Steinhart I've seen (and I've owned a couple of others). The movement looks really pretty in the sapphire caseback, no sharp edges like I've had with the Ocean One, just very nice to wear.

The other thing that works brilliantly is that the watch is a bit of a chameleon. It is a classic design, it looks vintage, even to non-watch aficionados, but to those who know about watches it is a Paul Newman and that's cool. Because of it's less blingy appearance and the classic inspiration it can be worn on more dressy occasions too. At the same time, because of the size and presence it can be worn in more showy situations, occasions when I might have put on the Panerai for example.

It's a brilliant watch, the quality is the best I've seen from Steinhart so far and for the money it really is good value.

In fact, I like it even more just rationalising it all in this post!

I'll do a proper review later with some pics and add the link to this post.
